why doesnt the 4th gen vtec exhaust fit on the non-vtec prelude
hello
i am wondering why the after market vtec exhaust dont fit the non-vtec preludes. is it the header? if i bought both a vtec header and vtec exhaust would it work?
the previous owner put a weird custom exhaust on it that sounds like doOk. i would like to replace it but not with an oem one because thats too much trouble.
can anyone recommend an aftermarket exhaust that doesnt look gay on the 4th gen non-vtec prelude. i will paint it black too
here is a picture of the prelude.

yes, those are 17 in gold ce28n's dropped on full coilovers..

Wow, nice looking Prelude!!
I know what you mean about the gay looking aftermarket exhausts. I researched a lot and decided to go with the Thermal Classic.
Here's a pic of it. Oh, my rear wheels look sweird because I tool a pic of my 4WS in action. http://www.we-todd-did-racing....x.jpg

you want low profile? why not go stock/RSR/hytech twin loop</TD></TR></TABLE>
Uuuum, that's not the reason. The cat lengths are different. The VTEC Prelude has a slightly longer cat. The header lengths are the same. The cat on the VTEC Prelude is longer, so the cat-back is a little shorter.

yeah you are correct, but the OP said he bought a vtec header. he also asked what exhaust looks good on a NON VTEC PRELUDE. so that means he has a h23. if he bought a h22 header IT WILL NOT FIT. basically his post contradicts itself. you can't mate a h22 b-pipe to a h23 top part unless you notch it or modify it. ppl have fit vtec cat back systems onto their h23 cats.

don't we need a resident assh@le, sort of a weeding out process? Not that anyone here needs weeding.
oh yeah, and where's your pic andy?

so the OP is only replacing the doOk custom exhaust? maybe just a low key muffler, you know?

No, what I am saying is that the VTEC header and H23 headers are the same length. The VTEC cat-back is "different" only by it being a little shorter due to the longer VTEC cat.. If I remember correctly, someone put a VTEC aftermarket cat-back on an Si and said it fit, but it didn't fit as nicely as a Si cat-back, but it fit fine.
I am willing to bet he will not have any trouble mouting either exhaust (VTEC or Non-VTEC) on his car, no matter what engine it has in it. If there is any trouble, just get an aftermarket cat and have the welder fabricate it to fit properly.

alright... i dont get the whole "non vtec and vtec exhaust not being swappable" thing. i had a 93' prelude s model with f22a and put a vtec apex'i N1 exhaust on it. then did a h22a full swap and the same exhaust bolts up perfectly. and now i am putting it on my jdm imported 4th gen and i am not finding any problems at all....
whats the deal?

I got mgags7 back on this one I thought the same thing. Is this thread to brag about his wheels or does he really care for answer. I mean WTF what does this guy want a scientific explanation as to why the exhaust doesn't fit? Dude if it doesn't fit, it don't fit and there ain't nothing we can do....
hey, im just wondering if the vtec exhaust will fit if i get an aftermarket vtec header..
im having trouble finding a nice exhaust for the bb4, the choices are very limited
im looking for something subtle but notihng generic like greddy or tanabe......
i look'd into fujitsubo but they only list it for the h22

OK from this he said "they only list for h22" which means you don't have an h22 or else alll this wouldn't be a problem
SO WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO FIT IT!!! you have a vtec header........WHY??? doesn't fit the h23 head or f series head. after that, "generic is greddy or tanabe" ok...you want subtle look get an RSR like i said and someone else said just take off the tip, completely black coated if you do that.
there aren't many aftermarket parts for preludes because its highly uncompatible with other hondas (which is why get the shaft on stuff). you can get any prelude exhaust you want to, just find a shop to either lengthen or shorten from the cat to make the right fitments. if you go to a good shop they can do it and put a new flange on if needed.
