Formula Ford.......What about Formula honda? Is there one?
hmmmm......I thought there was somehwere in europe but I've been googloing it for an hour and can't come up with anything yet.
http://www.formulajedi.com/
found them from reading around on the forums they arer supposed to be faster then formula fords for half the cost
The car is a John Corbyn-designed, lightweight spaceframe chassis, based on the successful Jedi design. All cars are built to the same specification to enable a level paying field. The class A engine is the Honda CBR 600cc 4 stroke, water-cooled, 16 valve motorbike engine producing 100bhp. This delivers a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 130mph.

But they are far from being a "spec" class.
The new Jedi cars appear to use any 600cc or 1000cc motorcycle engine!

JEDI now hold outright lap records at several circuits. Typical engines are now the Yamaha R1 998cc bike, engine , The Honda Fireblade engine or most recently the GSXR 1000 engine from Suzuki. All of these are giving some 150 bhp at the rear wheels and an incredible power to weight ratio.

Formula Jedi was originally created in 1996 as 'Formula 600'. The name was taken from the Honda 600cc motorcycle engine that was fitted to the rear of the Jedi racing car, constructed by John Corbyn at his Northamptonshire workshops. The idea for a race championship was developed because the Jedi chassis was being used very successfully on sprint and hillclimb circuits throughout the UK.
Formula 600 was therefore created and backed by the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) to produce identical performance single seater racing cars, that would provide a cost effective way to go motor racing. It would also teach the young and old about using slicks and wings. In 2000, Honda UK gave their support to the formula and the series became 'Formula Honda'.
I think that the 600cc class has to use a honda engine and the 1000cc is open but not positive

I forget what the series is called, but I thought this was a spec honda/mugen series. I could be mistaken though.

That was F3000. And it was not a spec class.

I was refering to a japan only series that raced alot of temporary street courses, not F3000. Might've been the support series for JGTC. They used b18cs FWIW. Oh well, its been several years since I heard anything about it.

Looks like a fun series, a pity that it's not here in america
Is it just me or does it look like the driver's feet are forward of the front suspension?
I tested a pro formula mazda and let me say that "entry level" wings and slicks cars are still damn quick. Asbolutely nothing like any production based race car, a whole different level of driving and challenge. Makes me sad that I couldn't put together the sponsorship package to drive one.
I also really want to give one of the Formula SCCA's a whirl. They look like a bundle of fun too.

Spec series based on a production car... reminds me of Sports Renault.
Anyhow, I'd think a "spec" series should use a factory drivetrain, at least a factory block and transmission arrangement. Move the FWD assembly to the mid-engine position and base either a formula car or sedan type race car off it.
Hey, kind of like what I did

The car pictured with the bullet-shaped air intake is an F3 car with an Opel engine. FNippon may be the series you're thinking about.
And yes, I was going to say the IRL but someone beat me to it! It's practically spec since they're mostly Dallara-Honda Firestones, except for the Panoz run by Rahal and sometimes Ganassi (for road courses).
