Default Spoon Filter or AEM Filter?

Hey guys,

im picking up a Spoon filter with intake box. (The box is just the ITR box)

I have an Old AEM filter with custom elbow to hook up to my stock intake arm on my GSR.

I also made the DIY icebox inlet arm out of 3inch pvc piping elbows.

which do you think will be better? the AEM filter or the Spoon filter?

I think it really wouldnt matter. A filter is a filter.... aem gets their filters from k&n so its nice that you can wash them and clean them a lot easier than the spoon one. BUT, if you feel like shelling out the extra dough for a "spoon" filter (which wont show any type of gains), then by all means...go for it!

there is better flow, better filteration, and aem is reusable unlike OEM paper

The material the makes up the Spoon Filter (which is the same as Greddy OEM replacement) is no different than the material that Comptech offers. All can be cleaned and reused.

I guess you need to determine what you think better is and there is only one way to find out.

Sometimes the most expensive products dont always out perform lesser priced products. Until you have proof, it may be a good idea to save a little money for a different mod that may get you a few more ponies.

i personally like the spoon filter because its designed to work with your stock airbox so you keep that stock engine bay look but i wonder if it sounds the same as a AEM sri

I can't say for sure. Take off the air box lid and find out. If you use the Spoon filter, keep the air box lid on. It sort of defeats the purpose of that filter by removing the box lid.

From what I understand, and being a prior owner of almost all things SPOON (check F/S thread in sig), SPOON is natorious for using OEM parts and relabeling them with a significant markup.

of course taking the top half of the airbox off defeats the purpose but i just though if i left the airbox intack with the spoon filter inside and took the restrictor box out would it be just as good as a AEM SRI?

Then, you would have something like Comptech's Icebox.

But can you prove it? I wouldn't make any outrageous claims until you can put it to the test.
