CB7 wont start after pulling the head!
i did a side job for my boss.... he had 2 bent valves and needed a new headgasket... so i pulled the head... get it repaired.. then put it back on... when it will turn over but will not start.. i hear it backfire a bit.. so it sounds like a timing issue.... i took the timing covers back off along with the crank pulley and valve cover to make sure my cam marks and crank all line up, and they line up perfect.. i had my friend put the distributor on while i took a break.... could he have put it on 180 deg off where it meets the cam? i havent had a chance to check it but i will tomorrow... any input would be great

plub wires were never removed from the cap... so they must be right... and they are tight.... the timing on the engine as in (cam to crank timing) are perfectly aligned... must be a distributor problem im thinking

you cannot install the distributor 180 off,, it can only go in 1 way..
chk to make sure you got everything hooked up properly ,, ground wire at t-stst housing ?
you are sure that when crank and cam are both at # 1 ?? i know that you said they align perfectly, but if the cam is 180 off, it will still align, make sure the letter up on the can pulley is upward when you are at top dead # 1

hmm... well the ground wire at the T-stat should be hooked up cuz i never disconnected it... ill double check...yeah the alignment is with the cam pulley showing "up" and the hash marks even with the timing cover... i can wiggle the rocker arms on cyl#1 so theres no pressure on it verifying that all the valves are closed at TDC.... i still think it has something to do with the distributor.... im gonna work on it today when i get off work.. thanx for the input and please keep it comming!!

Actually yes it can be done. I've seen it. If the lobes on the dist gear get worn it will give enough play to allow it to TIGHTLY fit. Take the dist bolts a little loose and spin it over. If it "dances" on the side of the head then you have it on 180 out. Also be sure to check the last part of what Accord-Pro said just above.

actually... i just asked my friend who put it on.. he said it put it on and had to force it in by tightening the 3 dizzy bolts for it to seat on the cam.... could that possibly confirm that its 180 off?

No that one didn't give much fight because of the amount of wear. But when I loosned the bolts to try and check the timing it started rocking all over the place on the side of the head.
And yes I do tend to prove that i'm human quite often. I can usually avoid disaster though. So for future reference i'm not P_Adams, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night.

you can not install a distributor 180 degree off properly. but you sure as hell can easily force it on wrong. i've seen it done plenty of times.

SORRY guys my mistake I just realized that it would take a cave man or a total moron to install the distr 180 off,, Jesus he is lucky not ot brake the distr housing by cranking on the bolts ..
No offense to anyone but if you install the distr 180 off and you have to crank on the bolts and it is hard ,and you don't stop to think that something might be wrong , ..
you got no business working on cars , you will cause more damage then good

anyway like i said... my friend threw the dizzy on so i dont take offense to that smart remark..... but yeah the car started... making bad knocking sound.... adjusted the valves and they are fine.... it was making a knocking sound b4 i worked on it.. maybe its rod knock... timing is dead on mechanically....
