D16A6 Troubles - Fresh Rebuild - Wont Turn Over... Crank... Crank... Crank *VIDEO*
HERES THE VIDEO
http://videos.streetfire.net/v...9.htm
This is a fresh d16a6 that I rebuilt. Trying to get it started wont go, just cranks and cranks its life away
I have a video I can upload of what it sounds like and what the lights are doing and the reaction of everything. Its an .asf file though, I gotta figure out how to host it
I really dont even know where to start with checking, Ive never had a car that didnt start. I'll mention what I do know though, its a d16a6 with vitara pistons and eagle rods, worked head with delta 272 cam and aem adjustable cam gear, timing advanced 3 degrees at the cam to account for .040" head mill. Adjustable B&M FPR that Im pretty sure was messed with but Ive got a FP gauge as well.
Its running a turboedit chipped ecu with a basemap from zenocron, dsm blue top 450's. The car has fresh 91 oct gas, just through in a walbro pump aswell. Plugs/wires are new and the dizzy is known to be good working.
This is my first time timing a motor aswell, dist and timing belt, if that makes a difference, I just got #1 cyl to tdc, a6 head to its mark and thew on the belt, should be fine right? My crank doesnt have visible marks that I can see but I didnt really look.
I just need to know what it could be and how do I check it please. Im lost at this.
Thanks guys

There should be some tiny grooves on the crank pulley look for them again. Maybe your timing is off. Also when you put the cam to TDC did you use the arrow, that is on the timing cover, to get the one line lined up pn the cam gear.
Also make sure you have the thermostat ground on. It is below the dizzy on the head.
Post the vid. and maybe that will help.

Thermostat ground is definetely connected 100% clean
Timing im sure I got on, first time doing it but I read a lot of manuals about it

Make sure the dist. isn't in 180 degrees backwards. Be sure the rotor is on the #1 plug wire when the engine/head is at #1 tdc
follow your cylinder #1 spark plug wire back to the dist. and see where it plugs in at on the dist. Then take the three screws out the hold the dist cover ( probably black plastic) off, and look to see if the dist. rotor is pointing the number one spark plug.
Thats about the only way I can explain it. Ask if you have any questions about those directions.

What are you refurring to?
Check your manuals they should have a good detailed discription of how to make sure it is a number one cylinder and there should be some pics.
Look under dist. removal in the manuals.

I thought the dist couldnt be checked
What I meant when I asked what I was looking for was what the rotor that would be point to the cylinder looked like?

sry. I couldn't help you,I didn't follow what you were talking about. Did you get it running?
HAHA I thought I typed it out fine, no i didnt get a chance to get to the car today, raining
I still dont know how to check the fuel system/adjust my fpr correctly and hwo to test the compresison

OK, I really dunno what the problem is because I changed so many things at once, just so many, everything really.
Im definetely getting oil pressure, I left my turbo feed line loose and made a good spill, so I know im good there
I dont know if my fuel pump was priming or not, shop is loud, my main relay sure is ticking fast when trying to start it though
Timing is the one thing I was never sure of, so I just put the #1 cyl to tdc, put the head (very lightly used built head so I know valve clearance is good) to tdc by making the aem cam gear mark line up with the little notch on the timing cover (d16a6) and threw on the belt. Im rpetty sure I checked it many times by spinning it here in my basement
I dont have marks on my crank I dont think thats why i had so much trouble
Is there any ways to trouble shoot your fuel system? That would help me out a whle lot
Spark I will check, thermo ground might have paint on it, firing order and fuel pump check
NEED HELP WITH FUEL!!!
Also - Would my car be throwing any cel's if its never been started?

For fuel just use a fuel pressure gauge. If you know of anyone around you that could help, it should be pretty easy to figure out.
Ive got a FPG will is be activated though if the car doesnt start?
I ned to knwo how to adjust my FPR to possibly make it work better though

Did you do a valve adjustment after putting the cam in? If they are out of spec enough the engine won't start.
Also, as far as the timing goes, did you manually turn the engine over a few times? How's the timing belt tension? If you set the crank at TDC and the cam at TDC, then installed the timing belt, you should be fine.
As far as I know you can't put the dizzy in 180 backwards, the teeth are offset just a bit, so it doesn't fit in the wrong way.
For fuel. You could just disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail and turn the key to the "on" position to prime the fuel pump, if gas sprays out, you know that is not the problem. (Make sure you have a rag handy). Also, are you sure you are getting spark?
Only three things could be reasons for not starting. 1. Spark 2. Fuel 3. Compression
You can check the spark by taking a plug out and resting it on the engine so see spark. You can check fuel by disconnecting the fuel line like I said before. And you could to a compression test, but if your timing is correct and your valves are adjusted correctly, then you should be fine.
Good luck.

as far as i know the main relay should not be clicking like crazy when you start it (if it was starting).
sounds like a wire is disconnected which is why the relay goes nuts.
check the inj wiring.

YES, you should have fuel pressure when you prime the pump (number II position on the ignition, aka "on". the one before starting)
