Default Puzzling Brake Issue.

Hey everyone

When I have to come to a stop at a light, stop sign whatever, there's (like 90% of the time) this weird and unsettling grinding sensation and noise. But there isn't any high-pitched squeaking like if it was metal on metal. I definitely can feel the "grinding" through the pedal.

At higher speeds, anywhere between 15-150 km/h, there is no sign of it, it's only just before I come to a full stop.

I checked the pads when I bought the car (5i-ish weeks ago) and they had like 80% wear left, so I'm confused as to the grinding noise.

Also, and perhaps the most important, my rotors have plenty of metal left on them, but are most-definitely warped, with pronounced, but completely controlable, steering-wheel shaking at higher speeds. I bought new rotors, but haven't put them on yet....the compresor I use=teh fucked. I'm wondering if the warped-ness is causing it....

Anyways, if anyone has any ideas as to what would cause the low speed, just before stopping, grinding, please let me know! Thanks in advance everyone!!!

Sounds like you have inferior brake pads on there.
Go ahead and replace those rotors (or have them machined) and put some good pads back on it (Honda pads are the best for a daily driver)

I like this suggestion, thanks gocow! It doesnt involve outrageous amounts of time, money, blood, sweat, etc. I had no idea that shaaaty pads could cuase this kinda problem. But that makes sense, cause the car, while in decent shape when I bought it, has the feeling of being cheaped-out on.

As I mentioned earlier, I have new rotors sitting at home. When I get the pneumatic gun (or whatever you call it) working again I'll swap my rotors and put some shiny new honda pads on there.

So, in the mean time, it's nice to know it probably isn't something that would result in sudden catastrophic failure.....right?

Just irritating. No damage that I can see since your replacing the rotors as well. Good luck and just ask if you need help doing the work.
