Default K20A vs. K20C

Does anyone know what it would take to convert a base RSX/SiR K20C to the Type S K20A? Is it just a matter of switching heads or is it a complete engine swap? Might be the deciding factor in getting the new Civic Si/SiR...

base rsx = k20a3
type s = k20a2

Type s has more compression (pistons), as well as head differences. vtec is also different, but i think vtc is the same, so pullies may all line up. also tranny..

There's no such thing as a K20C. People just assume that because the old TYpe-R was a B18C, the new Type-R is a K20C. It's a new series of engine with new engine code.

just to add, the type-s tranny will only fit on the type-s...same with the R...S owners can't take a R tranny and just bolt it on without some modifications...you can find a lot more about this at clubrsx.com

Sorry,my bad, I thought I read K20C somewhere. Either way, it looks like a whole longblock/tranny swap is the easiest if not the cheapest (excpet for nawsss LOL). Thanks guys.

Just drove the new SiR yesterday and looks like I'm keeping my EK. What a letdown! Is the RSX any better? I'm sure the Type S is.

Would a k20 S2000 head fit on the RSX-S block? What are the differences between the RSX-S longblock and the S2K longblock? Will the RSX-S tranny bolt to S2K K20?

Just pondering swap options...

dont think the heads/blocks line up properly.

trannies - im not sure, but im guessing no. this is why the k24 swap seems to be the way to go..

what he said...lol...
oh but to answer the question about why the DC5-R tranny won't fit on the type-s is because the housings are different...so like i said, you would have to modify a bit...now the FD will work and so will the flywheel...but i would still like to see someone try it...

Dude where are you getting this crap? making it up as you go along?
It bolts right on You don't modify anything. Its the same block in both cars just different pistons cams and a few other parts.

I'm sorry I came off a bit hard. I just hate to see misinformation.
The tranny cases are the same, Case in fact why you can bolt either to the USDM or JDM block and also why you can add the JDM LSD or gearing to the USDM tranny.

Ummmmm. Depending on the year thats true but even the k20a3 can have a k20a or a2 as a direct swap in no modification needed.

im not completely sure about the tranny stuff but im sure the the k20z1 cant use a k20a tranny, i found on jdmland.com that they were selling a itr tranny but it only fit on the k20a2 and k20a3 but not on the k20z1 which is the '05 and '06 type-s

You are bad wrong. All the K manual trannys will bolt up to the motor but some trannys have a different chassis mount( Accords, TSX, FGs)
