Default Scratching Sound When Braking

I need help diagnosing a scratching sound when I brake. It is not when I brake hard but when I brake soft. It sounds like metal rubbing on something to make a scratching sound. I checked the brake pads and they look good still. It only happens on the front-right side. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try checking your calipers or caliper. Mine started doing that but in the rear. The caliper was sticking and creating a "scratching" sound.

are your break pads wet? if they are, they always make that scratching sound.

Thanks. I'll check that out. But any idea why it only happens when I brake soft? It's annoying. I hate having that scraping sound when I stop. Then my car sounds like a POS lol

i dont think that is the case becuase we didn't have rain for over 2 weeks and it made the noise those whole two weeks.

Try taking everything apart, replacing pads (they're cheap, might as well) and cleaning everything with brakekleen.

there are tiny metal shims on the back of the pads between the calipers and the pads, these can move around, if one is off, then it can be scraping against the part of the rotor that connects to the hub, check that out

i know alot of the brakes have squeelers in them.. they make a horrible screeching sound when your pads are running low.. if you dont have the money to fix them, you can take the pads off and bend the little piece of metal back so it will stop.. thats what i had to do before i could afford a new pad slap

Have you done a brake job since you have owned the car? It might be your anti-squeal shims, or possible even the slide bolts. Also, depending on how long you have had the car with these problems, it might just be cheap pads. They are pretty much the #1 cause of disc brake noise in my experience.

I have the exact same thing happening on my 94 GSR. Only when you brake lightly, lilke when you're stuck in traffic. It's like a grinding sound, like your pads are shot, but when you check them they're fine, right?

Same wheel also.

I thought it was my pad/rotor combination, maybe I glazed them coming down the mountain. I didn't think about a sticking caliper. I sure hope that's it, my other theory was the ball joints starting to go.
