Default 1992 accord IACV query

My valve is currently sitting in front of me and work is in progress so: anyone know what happens if the plate at the bottom of the valve set (with the two hoses) is taken off? Has anyone done it? Can it be done when doing a DIY clean? Will it do any damage and can it be put back together?
Any help greatly appreciated.

OK, I got it... nothing there that could fall apart suddenly. There's just a coolant compartment...

The part you need to clean is where it bolts to the manifold.

Thanks!
Yes, in the end that is all that needed cleaning. At first I was just afraid that it was a jack-in-the-box and I wouldn't be able to but it back together...
But then I said to myself "what the hell..." and took it off. It turned out there was nothing but a compartment inside, so I cleaned that out as well since it was open.
Turns out it is also a good idea to change the seal because after 14 years it crumbles into dust.
