Will this chip make the crank unbalanced enough to hurt anything? Or mess up the belt?

So long as there are no burred edges rubbing the belt, it should be ok for a while.

There is not enough material missing to cause harm being unbalanced...

The pulley isn't what's balanced. The crank is internally balanced. The weight of the pulley serves to dampen harmonic vibration.

In other words, you're fine. Try not to drop your engine next time.

I could still throw off balace in the engine because centrifical force will make the pully wabble. Since its off I would replace it just to be safe.

The pulley is balanced too.

Use some heavy grit sand paper to round all of the edges. Any sharp edges will cause quick wear to your belt(s).

The mass is small enough and close enough to the center of rotation so as not to cause any balance problems most likely.

get another one, it's not worth risking if it's off balance, it can lead to uneven belt wear and it can snap fast

I bought this one on ebay. I didn't see in the picture that it was chipped. But what I want to know is will this harm internals like my oil pump? The belt thing is not a big deal.

The chip is too close to the center of gravity to throw it off balance that much. I cut a two inch chunk out of my wheel hub while freeing up my rotors and it was all good til i totaled it two days ago.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I'll go ahead and put it on the motor.

How do you know? did you do moments of inertia calculations on it?

hehe, just being a dick, but its centrifugal and its a 'false' force in a sense, arising from a non inertial reference frame. But I am with you on your opinion

LOL.... yeah I havent taken physics since junior year in high school so i forgot the correct terminology but at least you knew what I was talkin about

To the OP: I still think you should get a new one and trash that..... better to be safe than sorry with a motor

iono about a false force, unless you mean the part where the force is actually directed towards the center of the cicular motion instead of the outside like it feels..that is kinda weird, like when u yank ur ebrake an turn the wheel to the right...u get pulled to the left, but the force is really pushing u right, it's funny how that works, eh?

Other than that don't know how it's a false force :-P

at OP -- I know I sound like a total deush saying this but I hope it ***** something up -- just because u get a good engine and want ot make sure everything's right and such..then u put a POS chipped crank pully on :-\

my engine (H22) came with a chipped crank pulley too, looks similar to that. I'm still driving on that pulley, and its been least 20k miles since the swap. It has had no effect on my motor.
