loose steering??????
was running a discustang and hit the bakes hard after leaving him by numerous cars. i heard and felt a loud pop. after the sterring feels real loose. what could of broke.

I don't fully understand your post, but I guess you're saying that sudden hard breaking produced a sound followed by loose steering?
What kind of loose steering? Does the steering wheel have play in it before the wheels start moving? Can you rattle the steering wheel up and down or does it just vibrate when moving?
Describe the symtoms a bit better and someone might have a better idea. Relying on descriptions of sound is probably not going to get you too far man.
Anyway, jack up the car, take the wheels off and have a good look for obvious problems. If you can't find anything, check the troubleshooting in your workshop manual for the symptoms you are experiencing.
Play in the steering is usually tie rod end ball joint is worn or the rack adjustment spring isn't tight enough. It could even be a knuckle ball joint.. could be a bushing popped out somewhere, maybe in the rack mounts...
