b16 head or GSR head
Hey guys, I have an LS block and i want to do an LS/vtec set up... so what head do you think i should go with b16 or GSR. Im really feeling the b16 becuase i think i will get more tourqe out of it, but heres the catch a buddy of mine has a gsr that he took apart and put a Type r head on so he said he will sell me his head for 200. So what do you think... Go with the gsr, or just wait to come accross the b16. What is the big difference between the two set ups, and what motor do you think will do better on turbo?
If you are not planning on trying to make a monster, the GSR will be fine as it sits with stock cams and everything else.
If you are wanting world record all motor power, the B16/ITR head is a better platform to start with because they both roll out of the same cast from the factory and flow better.
That being said, a B16 head with GSR cams would be the ultimate poor mans combo (what I run) but for 200 bucks, a GSR head is a damn good deal.

B16 is better, or the same...Look at that graph again. I just noticed something. Look at the valve lift. The b18 doesn't beat the b16 until .450 valve lift.. I reallllly doubt that ANY honda unless it's got a BIG *** cam is gonna have .450 valve lift. anything in the .450 range of valve lift is a serious cam usually. cranes BIGGEST BADDEST b18 cam only has .472intake / .457 exhaust lift. And that is a race only cam look what crane says about it.
Race Only Roller Cam
Pro stock - all motor - naturally aspirated
Pro class modifications needed
Check valve to piston clearance
Minimum compression ratio 12.5:1
Anyways...With a regular valve lift number, the b16 out flows the b18, or ties with it. I'de like to see a cam that has .500 lift like that chart shows. Just something to think about.
If you wanna check it out. go to Acura VTEC Cams and go to the LAST cam, it's the baddest one. And according to that chart, the b18 outflowed the b16 overall by 2 cfm.
2 cfm isn't ****. You wouldn't even notive 2 cubic foot per MINUTE. So i guess it doesn't matter which head you go with. Just get the one with higher compression. Plus i wonder how accurate that chart is anyways. That's such a close flow number, I wonder if it's correct. 2cfm is sooo tiny.

If the gsr head is only $200 then get it.
If you plan on modding the head ie port and polish, valve work, etc. then get what fits your budget. Once you put work into then it won't matter which one you start with.

.450 isnt that much lift, lol. thats only like 11.4mm. my s2s2 have like 12.3mm (.484)
i would go with the gsr head over the b16. higher compression
