besides chipping, are 90-91 the best pm6 ecu?
ive searched and found little information. are the 90-91 si ecu's better than the 88-89 si ecu's? i know its easier to chip the 90-91, but is there any real difference in its stock form? btw, i have an 88 si...

You can't chip the 88-89 PM6s at all.

yeah you can chip the 88-89 but most chippers prefer not to,,its a pain..most 88-89 dont have external eprom and 90-91 ecus's do have external eprom...To be sure though check the numbers :: pm6-A09,pm6-L09, and pm6-C00 are all the chippable ones..

Take the top cover off, post a picture of the board and we can tell you absolutely if its chippable or not.
No one bothers with the "non" chippable ones, they require a specialized burner and ALOT more work.

True, that's why I called it non chippable. I have 3 ECU's and looking at the 89 and comparing it to the 91, the 91 is cake the 89 was just

Ok... pr4/pm6 are similar ecu architecture.
That 8k you are hitting has nothing to do with the ecu... its the program you used.
And you can make a chipped ecu "stock" with a stock chipped program.

yea i know that 8k is from the chip.....cuz that ls ecu is only at 6.5 also.....i jus thought he was askin bout chipped out options....cuz in comparison...the Si pm6 ecu and the ls/gs pr4.......the pr4 is cheaper....jus cuz theres more of them lynin around

I guess, I've found them both to be the same price and availibility, but it all depends on where/how and with whom you look.

Eh, not if you're doing it to use something like TurboEdit to properly dyno-tune it to your specific application. Unfortunately, very few people do this
A generally stock D16A6 will run best on a PM6-A09 ECU.
