Yes, there is a gain by switching to a Y8 exhaust manifold.

Yes you would gain power because your eliminating your "meow." But make sure to be prepared to pay an additional $30 to get an extra o2 bung welded in. Or you can buy my y8 header that is ready to swapped onto a y7. Already has the extra o2 bung in the stock location so you only have to extend one side of the harness to where the ex o2 goes.

You'd need to change the entire exhaust system IIRC. Because you'll need to have a cat between the exhaust manifold and the b-pipe (Y8) instead of having the cat inside the exhaust manfiold (Y7).

yes you can swap em and yes you will get power because of the lack of a cat....they 96-98 y8 headerS have an o2 bung in the manifold and are cast....the 99-00 y8 headerS dont have an o2 bung in the manifold and are tubular(which is better)

the y7 exhaust manifold has the cat intergrated in it so you might get some gains and a nice check engine light. y8 (ex) have the cat at the bottom seperate from the manifold..

I replaced my 1997 DX exhaust with a Y8 exhaust, DC headers for a Y8 and cat last year and passed the car inspection without a problem. I notice a little power increase too.

If you get the whole exhaust system for the EX, it is possible. My 97 DX coupe has this right now. I am using a 92 DX exhaust manifold, 99 EX cat, and a 99-00 SI stock center and rear muffler. I had an exhaust reading from the tailpipe taken it was clean and on the low end of the scale. The secondary O2 sensor will need to be extended. The 92 DX manifold has the primary O2 sensor on the runner.

I'm running a similar set up, but I couldn't find a y8 cat, so I went with an aftermarket cat and bought an o2simulator for the secondary o2 sensor. works great no CEL

Nothing will be gained.

I went from open Y7 manifold to open Y8 manifold. Didn't get any faster. Sounds a lot better though.
