I remember talking to Rons crew guy in Veags. I remember him saying something about always having an issue with that clamp for one reason or another. I guess that tape works really well. I think he said they use it in between rounds during teardown and inspection because of the issue with it.

And it's alot easier to cut safety wire than it is to unwrap that duct tape. TF39 Specialist here (C-5 Galaxy)

...as an A&P mechanic myself i don't mind safety wiring, but that is pretty sad.

many pro teams use the tape around the clamp just so the latch won't pop open. Quicker that safety wire for most guys...
I have run Wiggins for 4.5yrs...never had one open yet....The only thing i believe its for is the clamp will spin while the vibration increases and cut into the aluminum...over time that will wear out the tubing...
Look closer at the pics...
... both cars have safety wire between the throttle body and the intake tube.
BTW, the team has several aviation-spec mechanics on the team (a 747 pilot, a inspector at Garrett Aviation, and a missile/bomb builder at Raytheon). Duct tape is used as a redundant back-up.

...im sure that there is safety wire under the duct tape. but its just that it looks very "BYT". oh and BTW, there is no more GARRETT AVIATION. i used to work for them.
