i have a 88 dx swapped in a d16z6...im going to smog it next month but i need to swap out the aem intake...do i put on the stock 88-91 intake or the stock 92-95 del sol/civic ex/si intake??? or are all d-series stock intake the same???

 

I thought aem intakes were smog legal. Well if you ahve the stock intake try it, if it doesnt fit or work, its obviously gonna be the d16z6 intake. and if you dont have any intake, just buy the d16z6 intake.

 

i would use the crx/civic Si intake tube and air box.

about using the z6 intake tube and air box... the battery will be in the way.

and you wont be able to use the stock DX intake because of the top mount throttle body.

they are CARB legal. should have a silver sticker on the intake pipe.

thats why aem intakes cost so much!

 

They are definitely LEGAL.

 

during the visual part of the test what do they look for?? im worried about the way my battery is tied down...i dont have a battery tie down and just used rope to tie it down...im also worried about my wires showing from the obd0 to obd1 conversion...are these important during the visual at a TEST ONLY station???

 

i dont know what test only do you go to. but mine here they dont even look at the ECU. they just look under my hood and make sure all the vital equipment is there and hooked up.

i even removed my throttle body dash pot and i the guy didnt even care to notice. and i pasted smog haha.

stop being a chicken and go do it already. just go there and ask if they give free pre-test. usualy with a pre-test they can see if you will pass the acutal smog.

and if they do charge for pre test its only 25 bucks and if you fail the it wont be recorded into dmv.

No, they look for vital emission sensors and equipment. things like O2, evap, egr (which we dont have), cat, and stuff like that, if he gives you **** about the battery, tell him to f off.

 

It depends who the person is doing the smog If he is a honda guy he should know that your intake is legal. Does it say AEM on it. then tell him to check the CARB list.

As for the obd0/1 conversion try to hide the wires or wrap them in electrical tape. Make it look like it is stock. He might not even figure it out that it is a Z6 unless he checks every vacuum line to the manifold. If he doesn't see it he can't fail you for it.(We do check for electrical connections as part of the visual)

Also if the motor does not match the emissions label remove the label from the hood. That way he has to go from the book and the book is not always correct.

Some helpful hints from a friendly test only smog tech.

 

As long as all the emissions equipment are installed and functional there shouldn't be any issues. Make sure that your engine bay looks like OEM. Use electrical tape to hide any loose wires that don't supposed to be there.

 

I have a Skunk 2 IM...which they just made not CARB legal ...will this make me fail?....My date for emissions is in 2 weeks....what should i do?

If you're not out of California, CARB certification means nothing. Every state has distinct emissions laws and mandates. Check with your local smog shops for the lists of approve modifications. Good luck....

i have a 90 crx si w/b16a and cheap ebay intake and i hade to go to a test only and they passed mine.and i had my nitrous hooked up, w/ the line ran to the intake and everything, so u never know

i just brought it in for test only today and the guy said he couldnt do it because it was a different motor...he said everything was fine with it..the header, wiring, intake.. was all good but he couldnt do it because it was a different motor....he knew his stuff...daym it...SAN BRUNO SMOG TEST ONLY!! anybody else know where i can go???
