Ive got a b16a with a Y1 with LSD in my CRX. When I got it it had the slight infamous third gear grind. I put some synchromesh in it and it went away. Now last week or so I missed third really really bad. And every since that its a really harsh grind going into third only, every other gear is fine. Something in the shift linkage seems loose becuase I can wiggle it side to side a good 2-3 inches while its in gear. I have yet to have time to look at anything. I put fresh synchromesh in there and it didnt help. Ive been skipping 3rd gear since then to prevent more damge. Also, if I shift into third after letting the rpms go down to neutral it will go in fine but if Im shifting into it from second it will grind, I can also get it to not grind sometimes by not going diagonal from second to third but going up over and making sure its perfectly straight, then up. What things should I check for?

 

You may have bent the bitch pin in your linkage out of alignment on that missed shift, especially if you impacted something solid with that bad throw. Change it out, change the bushings while you're at it.

 

Penzoil Synchromesh. Not a permanent solution, but it will prevent damage till you fix it.

 

I have had sychromesh in it, and just put fresh in to try and stop it, it didn't.
