B16a motor problem...any ideas?
I have 1990 Honda CRX with a b16a swap and it seem to be having some
problems. First off I thought it was just a clutch issue so I replaced the clutch and
flywheel which seemed to help a little bit but the original problem still
was there. The problem is is that when i get near 3000 rpms my motor seems to
lose its power and not go any faster. Highway driving the car won't go past 70
mph. I have no idea what the problem could be because I checked the timing and
compression and both passed fine. Maybe it could be a knock somewhere
setting off the knock sensor which I believe retards the timing. Also the car did not pass emissions, it failed the idle HC test by a little so I wonder if the problem that I have may have something to do with that too. I'm looking to have it looked at at a local motorsports shop but if you guys have any ideas that would be awesome.

what ecu are you running pr3 or pwo? i'm asuming that you are running obd-0? if so make sure you o2 sensors are wired correctly the pr3 reads a primary and a secondary o2 sensor when i swaped a gsr motor in my first car a 91 integra (obd-0) in would bogg around 3000 rpm because i didnt wire it up correctly...it coulp be a lot of things i guess but its sounds like a sensor or wiring prob. are you throwing any codes?

yeah i'm taking it in to a local shop to have it looked at so hopefully they find it. yes i do believe it is OBD-0. so i dunno what it could be but your problem eems similar to what i have going on. also when i try to maintain speed its like the car will bogg and then catch back to speed and the bogg yet again in like perfect time. like 3 seconds or so a piece.....kinda feels like wind gusts in perfect succesion against the car...any ideas from hearing that?
could a clogged header affect my problem at all? we think that may be it because i installed my skunk2 catback system on and it hardly makes any noise at all which isn't right compared to my last crx i had it on. the header has to be clogged, any ideas with that info?
