Default Baffled oil pan

just doing a few more things to my gsr hatch and wondering in a baffled spoon or mugen oil pan may be a smart precautionary investment. since im mostly doing doing autocross (ditched dragracing) ive heard that excessive g's may cause oil starvation. just wondering opinions and past experiences.

Not sure if this is redundant or remedial: hi G turns DO cause oil starvation.
The time to glance at the gauge (obviously) is in one of these turns. I've noticed my gauge drop pressure even in aggressive street driving.

Moroso also makes a baffled oil pan for B-series, not sure if you considered this one, but it's pretty competitively priced and also has radial cooling fins, FWIW. I'm not sure if your suspension is set up to allow for such clearances, but it's worth a look.

The other option is to weld baffles into your stock oil pan yourself.

Then there's always the dry-sump conversion, which gets pricey.

Yeah, get one.

You only need starvation for a very short amount of time to damage a motor.

You may not be dipping in press now, but you might be later. (Diff track, faster driving, etc...)

Also, your eyes shouldn't be on the guage in a corner, right?

We used the Mugen pan for HC H1 and it worked spiffy.

Knock knock
who's there?
I don't know
What do you mean you don't know?
I'm a baffled oil pan.

I'm not sure it's worthwhile for Autocross, but it's great piece of mind for track days. I have the Moroso one, 5 quarts, pretty nifty trap doors. Seems to work. Not bad for $250 plus an oil pan gasket. Installation isn't rocket science, but you may have stubborn exhaust bolts to deal with to get the exhaust out of the way. Also, the tranny brace/flywheel shield on my car (ITR) needed to be chopped up a bit to get the Moroso pan to fit (MOR20910 if I recall correctly)

Or you could spend $10 on the Heeltoe inserts and weld those suckers in.....sure beats $270+ for an oil pan.

Look at pics of the two solutions - the mugen pan is a far better peice. Yes, you pay for it, but I think its worth it

Hmm, $270 for a pan or 1-3G's for a motor, yeah I'll get the pan. I'm happy with my Mugen. I'm thinking about getting a oil accumulator though since I use R compounds on the track for HPDE's.

I own both pieces, and functionally, there is zero difference. I'll keep the $200+ in change for seat time or tires.....*shrug*

A pair of flat baffles does not trap oil like the mugen baffles do - and by looking at both solutions, the mugen modified pan looks like it drains oil into the pickup better as well. Its just a well engineered piece, and a pair of flat baffles welded in is a cheap imitation. Just my $.02, its your engine.

.RJ is such a parts snob! I have a feeling that people were fabricating their own baffles long before the mAd TiGhT JDM M00gen pan came about.

I have never once had any problems with oil starvation (I can datalog oil pressure, among other engine parameters, so yes I am sure) even on R compounds on track, club rallies, rallycross you name it those cheap imatations have done a fine job.

a better option,IMO,is a pressure warning light.Autometer sells a snazzy unit that'll run you around $45 for the sending unit and light.
Moroso has a setup for $35.you could even get creative(and cheapass-er)and buy just the sending unit for $15 and make your own light with regular old bulb holder.
doesn't require your attention away from the track.you don't even have to think about it-if the light comes on in your peripheral, trouble.
i do agree though that if you're going to track your car often,it's worth the relatively small amount of money to just get a baffled pan to begin with.

Is there anything wrong with the new Moroso 5.5 quart steel baffled pan? It's only about $200.

i have one of the steel, baffled, higher capacity Moroso pans for use on my new engine build.part #20910.haven't used it yet,but i've read a ton of comments, all of them good.
be careful though,as they also offer an exact stock copy(no higher capacity)with baffles.i saw this mislistd on some sites as the higher capacity model,at around $200.most places i've seen the higher capacity model they're closer to $240.
