Default M&H Slicks-Better than MT?

(this is not a honda, but since there are quick/fast FWD cars here with good knowledge it's a good place to ask)

I have been trying to get my MT ET streets to work but they just won't grip. Can't better a 1.9 60 and literally (AEM Log) 40-60% throttle feathering thru 1st and 2nd still spinning until I hit 3rd then I can full throttle. This nets a 132 trap at 12.2

Once I get the fine tuning done (I tune at the track LOL) It should be around 750 crank HP 650+ torque crank off the bottle. Car weighs roughly 3000lbs

I was using 26 X 10.5 X 15 so I figure more rubber under the car has to be good so I have ordered M&H Racemaster slicks 26 X 12 X 15 and a set of 15" 10" wide Weld Pro star wheels

I have heard from other import drag racers that M&H are a good choice. Have I been hearing right?

on the MT ET Streets I have tried for two seasons from 14psi down to 8psi. They are tubed. Just could never get good bite on them. 1.9's were average. two 1.89s ever. And this was two sets. One set per season.

What do tubed M&H Racemaster slicks like running down to? I know every set/car is different, but most tires have a good range. MTs are known for being higher than others.

I do now have the two step button on the steernig wheel for the Greddy ProfecB specII so I will come out of the hole on low boost. Last week it wouldn't work, I could only drop boost to 27psi. Turned out the Ext WGs are fubar, new Tial 38mms are due in tomorrow. I will set boost on low for 5 or so to get out of 1st, then bump it to 30-40+psi.

are you trying to keep it in a certain class? or a street tire class? if not, just got with full wrinkle wall slicks. although, there are plenty of street tire hondas doing better then 1.9 60's with a much smaller tire.

Agreed. I hit 2.0s on AVS ES 100s. Your power just isnt right mated to those tires. Full blown slicks is the way to go.

They are the racemaster slick, not radial/dot slick.

marked the tires and they weren't spinning on the rim.

I got the Weld 15X10 rims in today with the M&H 15X12X26 and tubes. Had them mounted on the rims. That is a LOT of rubber! If I can't stick with these nothing will help.

Can I run down to 6psi?

maybe it's the track. I lnow that slicks don't bite that good on a track that has had a vast amount of street tires burning out and launching on it before hand

I'm wondering if there really is a significant difference between the two. In Dinwiddie, I noticed alot of SFWD competitors are on M/T's as well as opposed to M@H's. Any particular reason why you prefer the M/T's Randy?

Got the tires and tubes and rims and had them mounted.

Will be testing them out this coming weekend. Will try 8 then 6 psi.
Figured out why I couldn't boost lower than 26psi so I can now come out of the hole at 8psi then switch to 30-40psi

All I can say is WOW

First time in 2 1/2 yrs drag racing this car that I did not spin thru 1st and 2nd.

And first time ever I bog'd out of the hole. Same RPM and everything. They just Grabbed. Finally could do WOT thru 1st and 2nd. 1st time I could do that in the years I have running this car. They stuck like GLUE. CRAZY. And with 10psi in them. Not even that low.

M&H kicks ***!

Oh, it was an 1/8 track just to get launching down with the new setup. Only one run.

2.1 60 (bogged)
7.5@104mph

Low boost in 1st and 2nd (12psi), then 30psi in 3rd. Setup good for 45psi.
Only just started into 3rd when crossed the line so not in high boost long. My 3rd gear goes to 146mph.

I hear ya. Normally I do 1.90 60's on MT ET Streets. This was the first time in over 2 yrs I bog'd instead of spin so it caught me off gaurd. So the 2.1 60 doesn't even bother me since it was stick that caused it not spin. The way these things hooked is just amazing. I still can't beleive it. It's what I have been looking for for years.

Time to come out of the hole at a higher RPM!
This saturday at the Rock!

John M&H ..

i would not say MT isnt good bcos that would be unfair as i never try one that has 22''/13''/8''... MT didnt have that size at that time. thats why i went to M&H and the good thing i could deal direct to m&h not like MT where i have to go thru a dealer in my country that marked up the price so damn high..unlike with M&H. i find John/Michael @ M&H are very helpful people with very good customer service. they even did a long distance call to where i am just to make sure the correct order ..

yus (brunei)]

john,i will order some skinnies when i get my skinnies wheels from wil exospeed.

Man thats tough to believe that you were having that much problems with ET streets. We were doing 1.4's 60' (rwd though) with the same size tire you were running. I think you might have more of a suspension problem than tire problem.

But at least you happy with you new slicks

You are comparing 2 VERY different tires there. Those ET streets look ragged out. A lot of guys have found better results with a MT on a good track.
