Default **1994 Accord TRANY PROBLEMS...PLZ HELP ME!!!***

Ok...i bought a 1994 honda accord with around 113,000 miles on it about 7 months ago...it ran fairly good until like 1 week after i started driving the car...i didnt hot dog it ne hardly. But now...when ever i take off and i think it changes from 1st to 2nd gear (auto by the way) it GRINDS fairly loud, sometimes when it does this the rpm goes up to about 3-4K then it catches or something and levels back down....it drives fine and everything...but that just gets annoying. Im afraid i might have to replace a trany and i have little money since im 17. I also heard from my uncle that is car savie that it might be a torque converter. plz help

one more question...on my pipe...between the manifold and the muffler theres this extra round piece of pipe in between there...and there is a object in there that is rattleing at a certain rpm...and its annoying as F***. wtf is it!.

sounds like the trans is heading south, the noise you hear from the exhaust is the "2000 rpm buzz" is caused by the pipe joint not being tight enough. there is a service bulletin and an upgrade kit for that problem.

ok another question...i was readin on another honda forum and they said that the car sometimes has a 2000-2400 rpm GROAN noise and a 1800 rpm BUZZ noise...could that grind i think is the tranny be the exhaust also...i noticed that it only does it at a certain rpm....and if i take off fast enough it dont do it.

If you can jack up the car, make sure use good jack stands – don’t go under otherwise, now be sure engine is cool or use a rag then hold your CAT converter give a good shake, if you hear any sound then you have a broken CAT else check the metal covers etc.

It’s happened to me, and it was my cat making the grinding noise, not my tranny

If you can not go under the car then go to a muffler shop (midas menakie will do) sorry about my spellings

It could definitely be your pipes, or any part of the exhaust. I bought a cheap muffler one time, and it made my whole car vibrate at a certain rpm range. That is, until the inside of the muffler fell apart, then it just sounded bad. I ended up getting a new stock muffler. An exhaust system needs to be tuned (to a certain degree) to suit an engine. Good luck with your car.

No man you don’t have to spend 1200 dollars, it is your muffler, cat or its pipe making that noise, since this thing increase your blood pressure – do a Trans fluid change or flush and it will help Tran’s health and your pocket.

Ya .. very very common problem for the autp tranny to shoot up the RPMs .. theres a way to control that tho. You must know when your tranny is about to shift and get off the gas while it does. This is kinda like getting off the gas as you would go for the clutch in a manual tranny. If you try staying on the gas while you shift a manual tranny .. the RPMs will shoot up as well.. So try timing yourself to get off the gas as the tranny shifts .. it should be much smoother ..

Your rattle is probably A) One corner of the catalytic converter heat sheild has broken and rattles the corner until you give it gas an stabilize it with pressure B) Theres a rock caught in your catalytic converter heat sheild ..

.. either way most people just remove the sheild all togheter ..
