It's time to buy an S2000 but...
I've been shopping around for about 3 weeks now. I've talked to 5 salesmen at 3 dealships and couple a private owners.
I've been hoping to find a clean title 2002 model under 21k but it ain't easy! There's one at lot for 16,999 with 24k miles on it but it has a rebuilt title because the owner slid the back end over curbing and broke the suspension. They shop said that the suspension was rebuilt and replaced with all new parts including the rear diff.
I am not planning on owning the car for very long (maybe 4-5 years), and I know that rebuilt title cars have much lower resale value but is there anyway to "clean" the title?
What do you guys recommend?
Buy a higher priced car from a dealership?
Buy from a private owner?
Buy a salvage title and try to "clean" the title?
As for the red search button.... yea... did that.
Thank you.
btw: the test drive was spectacular!

just keep looking.
autotrader and cars.com.
dont buy anything you dont want to pay for.
i was looking for something similar 02-03 for around $20k +/- 2k and only black or yellow (no silver or blue for sure). i ended up on the high side of that with a 34k mile and 1 owner in his 50's and generally in good condition and well maintained. if i wanted a silver, i could have easily met my criteria under $20k.

Personally, I'd never buy a salvage titled car, especially if you're planning on selling it. Look around here and on s2ki. You'll find one. But might be hard now, since everyone's looking for a vert for the summer time.
i don't know where you at located but I'm in san diego and have mine for sale for $22k. 24k miles, NFR, clean everything, excellent condition. 2k more for the hardtop. it's stock.
bttp:
i'm not sure you will find one for under 21k with low miles. But it is a honda. I would lean towards private owners as they offer better prices, but you have to carfax it and make sure they are not lying to you.

As far as I know, once a car has a salvage title, you can't ever "Clean" the car.... I echo someone above's thoughts: if you aren't planning on keeping don't buy a salvaged ride y0!

depends on your budget, and if the car has low miles and how well they took care of it,
i think i got a decent deal
03 silverstone, 17.5 on the clock mint condition not a single scratch on it, perfect condition in and out, new tires 100k bumper to bumper
i bought it at a honda dealer, 23.5k + tax etc. this was 5-6 weeks ago
2 weeks ago a friend bought a sebring silver 02 w/47k scratches everywhere dings dents, repainted rearbumper front bumper scratched not aligned, 1 month warranty for 20.5-21k
i think he got ripped off, considering the condition of the car.
IF YOU want a warranty get it at honda, as long as the car is mint i'd go private seller, but i didn't find any clean ap1s, i like them better.

Mine is an 04 rio yellow pearl (F***ing beautiful) had 25,000 and some change for mileage, and bought it for 25,000 and some change. One owner, no wrecks, no dings, clean as a wistle title.
PS - bought from dealership early this year. Also if go used(like mine), and it is a certified vehicle from Honda, they extend the warranty(for free) for an extra year/12,000 miles to make it a 4year/48,000mi bumper to bumper warranty..........then I paid just over 1,000 to extend to 100,000mi
...which is well worth it if you drive the car hard.

Does that 100k warranty cover bumper to bumper or only the power train?

i got it from honda, and yes its 100k or 7 years, sold it for 914,
BUT it also starts from the date of the ORIGINAL purchase was made,
therefore if you buy a 02 you only have 3 years left of warranty

my warranty goes up in like 5 more months but by then everything should be running flawless. But i have plans for my S so there is really no point to it. cause once u do this and that to it ur $1k and up warranty is gone. Oh well!
you cannot "clear" a salvaged car unfortunately. Since your gonna only keep teh car for only 4-5 years, u should buy a legit "clean title" so you can sell it much easier in the future.
I on the other hand, knew i was going to keep my car for a very very long time until it breaks down, so i bought a salvaged s2000. (seats, cut top, and speedometer were gone, but all fully replaced when i bought it) for about $11,300.
Smokin deal i couldn't pass up.
Think carefully about what you wanna do.

That's pretty crazy, even if he bought it in October 03.. that's about 25k a year... Come to think of it.. I was on my way to 36k a year.... it's not that bad!

Silver was a no brainer.
The only other color I would have gotten would have been red but I think I will be happier with the silver because I hate paying tickets...
Now, anyone know where to find good deals on Valentine 1's?

You can try to find one on ebay, but you'll still be paying $350. I'd rather spend the extra $50 and get a brand new unit.
