Hi,
Its a good welder, but tell your dad to save up for the Syncrowave 180SD.
Its not much more than a econotig

I had one...
it's a great little machine, it dosn,t have full control over output wave patern.
it's starter machine, it will do aluminium, SS and mild steel... up to 1/8.
I sold it and bought a Miller Syncrowave 200.
let me tell you that there is SERIOUS improovement over the 180 sd... meaning I wouldn,t buy a 180sd now that the 200 is on the market
tell your dad to get a few more penny and jump on a syncrowave 200... he will be way more happy than with the econotig ( still depending on what he plan to do.. but you didn't mention that in your post )
kranked

he's mostly going to be using it for fixing and building misc trailers and tools
its for the familys sport fishing lodge so misc useage
but it would do the job when welding things up like manifolds correct?

I love my econotig. I have it at home now, I would never sell it. Its a great machine, it did everything i needed it to do in steel and aluminum. Its funny people say the econotig sucks for aluminum, you need to learn how to weld lol
tell me this sucks

The 180sd is nice too. It has a bit of ac arc shaping capabilities but nothing to write home about. My 180 works great too. I donno what to say, their both great little machines imo.
