Default Built a set of carbon fiber pipes for motorcycle

Well its for a Honda anyway. Here is one of the pipes, still working on the other one.

I took a pipe that had an aluminum sleeve and swapped it with a prepreg cf sleeve. This setup used to have a 2.875" ID sleeve and I had to increase the diameter to 3" ID to make the pipes I sell fit. I had my welder tack a strip around the diameter and then I ground it down and used some filler and sent them out to be hight temp powder coated. TRG coating did them I think they are on HT, did a good job!

Then I added some polished strap and black rivets.

The factory sleeeves were basically glued on. I have no idea why the manufacturer had resin in there. Maybe it was some checmical that broke down over time and heat but I trashed the aluminum sleeves getting them off. This was my first time doing this so it didn't make me very happy In any case I also added a fiberglass backed heat sheilding material around the diameter before I put the sleeve on. This will help shield the carbon from too much direct heat. The heat sheild went on shiny side facing inward. I used this stuff:

I repacked them with new fiberglass as well. Anyway I thought I'd share, I thought it came out nice. One note about the weight decrease. It isn't that much different than stock. Mostly this is due to the fact I had to weld extra steel to the pipe at both ends to increase the sleeve diameter. Although the stock sleeve itself is aluminum it was smaller diameter than the carbon tube. I used bigger rivets because the customer wanted black. If I was building this from scratch it would be much lighter.
