Default 00 Civic si

hey guys, i am about to purchase a 00 Civic SI for 5 grand. its mind condition and has a few mods that im not 100% about yet. Some girl that my friend knows dropped the price down. I own a 93 Prelude SI right now, and my friends are telling me that a civic si is alot better, but dont they have the same engine? I just want to know some Pro's / cons about a civic vs a prelude. Thanks alot guys.

Nothing, it runs mint. looks mint. 80k miles. My friend dave whoes like 9 years older than me (im 17) owns a mechanic shop, knows this girl who is selling it. i guess they are good friends.. dave is like a brother to me. He talked her down to 5k, it just needs a new battery.

on the prelude you have the H23
the civic si has the b16a2 and is a very slow motor.
no torque.
Your prelude will kill the civic

Well let me help you with that since I just got through owning a h22 and h23 prelude and now I'm on my bastard torqueless civic si. I love my prelude to death and will definetly buy one again as soon as I reasonably can. assuming you own a 93 prelude vtec and not si then you have the fastest usdm prelude produced (assuming its a 1993 and 5spd). I believe stock for stock they have it listed as a pretty even match as far as 1/4 mile times. Performance wise the civic feels a lot lighter and takes a lot to get used to since you can literally throw your prelude into turns. Both have pretty good out of the box performance with the civic having more of an aftermarket which somewhat defines more potential yet the h22a can easily be made into a powerhouse by someone who knows what they are doing and that cannot be denied. However for 5 grand in mint condition go for it but you will definetly miss the lude especially the styling cues and the torque. Although that prelude is a boat.. no joke.

Oh, well i have wanted a prelude since before my license and i have it. but my prelude has probs, 50lbs of compression are gone. my cylinders 2 and 3 are low cos the guy who had it before me beat the hell out of it. Now i kinda feel like an idiot buyin the civic but the lude is slowly dying.. poor thing.

Where can i buy an H22a engine? i know i can swap it.

I dunno about hte H series cause I've never driven/ridden in one. I will admit that the b16a2 has a lack of torque, but wtf do you expect from a 1.6L engine that revs like a mother?

All in all I could not be HAPPIER with my EM1. Unmatched reliability compared to any of my other cars and it rolls like it did the day I bought it with 38k miles, even at 74,600 miles.

It's slow sure, the b16 is the bottom of the barrel for dohc vtec B series, sure. But it has a lot of potential and it's a fun as hell car to drive for me personally.

Each has it's pros and cons, but your statement about the prelude killing the civic is very uneducated. There's more to it than just engine size and horsepower/torque ratings. Weight of car, gearing, and driver... I have beaten H22 and H23 Preludes before in my b16a2 99 Civic Si.

For 5k I would buy the Si.

Yea, SI for 5k. You will be happy with it. Screw the haters that say the si is slow. Its not the fastest, but it not slow by any means.

Well if you can convince your dad of it. Rebuild the motor or buy the JDM H22 and get the H2B conversion and a B series VTEC tranny. It WILL kill an SI.

Si for 5k is a pretty good deal, actually if its not salvaged, its a great deal. I have driven both cars since my brother owns a h22 and i own the b16. There is a major torque difference. Everytime I drive his car I have to get use to the clutch since the car moves so easily. His car weighs so much that he goes around corners like nothing, while my car is light and squeals a little around corners. In the end if you can turbo the Civic or swap a b18 bottom end in there, the torque will be back, and you should be relatively happy.
