Default 88 crx si starting problems

Hello,
Sorry for my first post being a problem, but its needed. My 88 crx si sat for about 8 months before I was able to get around and "fix" it. Initially the tranny mount ripped the bracket holding it onto the tranny causing a problem with the halfshaft. I fixed that problem finally only to find it wouldnt start. I traced the problem to the main relay and it now starts...sort of. The car starts right up but studders immediately. after about 10 seconds it idles high and the CEL comes on, but the stumble is gone and it sounds like normal, then sputters and dies. hitting the gas only prolongs the time it takes to die, doesn't seem to change the rpms at all. I replaced the cap, coil and rotor with msd parts. I swapped out the coil out and it still does it. The fuel pump primes when ignition turned on, and I have fuel pressure. I had a problem with the igition control module before, but I changed that out and it ran fine. The dizzy was a reman installed last year (about 2k miles at most ago) and ran perfectly before I parked it.
I'm no guru when it comes to cars, I know basicis and can find my way around the engine fairly well, but I'm kinda at a loss now without spending a lot of time to figure it out. I had a problem with the igition control module before, but I changed that out and it ran fine. The dizzy was a reman installed last year (about 2k miles at most ago) and ran perfectly before I parked it. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How about cleaning out your fuel system. If it sat for a prolonged period of time, this may be the problem. Fuel has a tendancy to varnish and seperate if not used. This may be costly. Try siphoning out the old stuff and putting in new fuel. you may have to replace the fuel filter and perform a fuel injection service if you can get it running so as to clean the injectors. try this if none of the other obvious stuff worked.

Bad fuel. Drain the tank and put in another gallon with part injector cleaner. start and pray.

It seems strange that after 8 months, it would be this bad. I have a co-worker that filled his beater last year and still hasn't gone through all the fuel (he rarely uses it), and hasn't had one problem. I replaced the fuel filter addded some seafoam. let the mixture run through the system as best I could, but still is the same. The CEL comes on exactly 7 seconds every time. After I was able to get the car to stay at a semi consistant idle and warm up, when I let off the pedal it would back fire repeatedly. I look through the engine bay to catch a glimpse of the cat glowing bright red. i'm wondering if some little rodent made a nice home in the cat... I guess I am going to have to unbolt the exhaust, but if I am going through that much trouble already might as well get a new aftermarket header/cat/exhaust. Anyone ever bought an exhaust from SSautochrome on ebay?

no one on here is gonna say the ss autochrome stuff is good. but if the stuff was so horrible i doubt the seller would have such goodfeedback. anyways i probly wouldnt buy anything like that now cuz i have different setup/car altogether and i need to know exactly what im getting for ground clearance purposes, etc. BUT i considered getting some stuff from them for fun when i had my old sohc crx, so i went through the feedback on ebay and asked some people about the stuff they got. i couldnt find anyone who wasnt pretty much satisfied... i never bought anything but my friend i sold that car to just put headers from them on. they look nice and engine seems to be breathing better.... he has an exhaust and intake also... hope that helps.

anyways check and make sure there no dirty SOCKS stuck in your intake manifold... there was a post floatin around about that... it was pretty recently haha... what was actually in ur cat?

welcome to honda-tech btw.

I haven't checked the cat yet, I don't think I will get the bolts off without heating them up. Its the same cat when I got the car, and the bolts look pretty rusted. It worked fine when she was parked, thats the main reason I think something might have crawled in there. I live in a very rural area, mice/chipmunks/hell a squirrel might have gotten in there, who knows. I figured it might not be a fuel problem after all, only because when I keep on the gas it won't rev higher but it will stay consistant. Its only when I let off the gas when the firecrackers start in the exhaust and it sputters and dies. I will have to cut off the exhaust I think, without a lift here I won't be climbing under the car with a torch to heat up the bolts.

I did purchase a turbo manifold from SSautochrome that I haven't used yet, so I can't really say if the workmanship will last. It looks good, welds look average, nothing spectacular though. I heard a lot about the welds crack because of the weight of the turbo. It was enough to cause me to rethink my intital ideas. I've also bought a Megan header for my h22 and was really impressed with the quality, but I haven't found one for a d16 at all. I don't want to spend to much, about 500 for header to the tailpipe. I guess I'll keep trolling ebay.
