Default bad sounding exaust

Hey im just getting into the whole import scene recently and i bought a 94 civic 1.6 Vtech and It had an OBX Exaust already on it...I noticed that when im getting on it the exuast sounds nice untill about 3500 RPMs then it starts to sound real bad and scratchy ricer sound then at about 4500 RPMs it sounds good again...whats the problem here, is it just the exuast or could it be just the muffler or what could it be???

It's a naturally aspirated Honda four-banger with an OBX muffler What did you expect, a Ferrari V12-like exhaust note all the way to redline?

It's pretty obvious that he did. OBX parts make Civics racecars, right?

For $800 dollars I could buy a beat CRX and build a homemade turbo kit and run 13's with it. No thanks.

I had an OBX header, it did the job just fine.

My exhaust sounded like **** until I fixed all of the leaks and cracks driving downtown earns you. Oh and my axel back section fell off. Now it sounds nice again, but i have a mugen header and 2 17in resonators, no cat and a tsudo axel back. Don't expect much from just a muffler.

There are a few things that go factor in to the sound of your exhaust.

1) Stock piping with the GHEY OBX muffler
2) Crush bent custom muffler shop exhaust
3) No resonator

All the things make Hondas sound like pissed off bumble bees!

Buy a complete cat back system from a reputable company, i.e. GReddy, Apex'i, Thermal R&D etc.

You need a muffler that actually 'muffles' the exhaust. and OBX doesnt count. If want a good exhaust sound you will need a name brand exhaust or a quality custom piping kit with a nice muffler.

Even so hondas just dont sound that great in general so I would spend too much time or money worrying about it. I picked up a used greddy evo and it sounds ok but its still kinda loud on vtec. Just no way around it...

ive got a mangnaflow 4x9 oval muffler with 2.25 inch pipe and a 22" resinator. and it sounds very nice. pretty cheap too. i got mine for @$60 off ebay. nice and quiet untill you get on it than it sounds real good does really sound like a 1.5. just my two cents. good luck with it.
