Default questions about cooling fan

I noticed a burning odor while driving slow on warm days. Noticed radiator fan

does not come on unless ac is running. Is it normal for the radiator fan to run

only when the ac is on? Even when engine is hot the radiator fan will not run

unless ac is on. Relay for radiator fan checked good. After investigating, I

noticed radiator fan came on when I shut the car down, but as soon as I restarted

it shut off, until I turned the ac on. I would appreciate any enlightment on this.

what is your make, model, color or is it a nuclear powerd ship?
do you know how to troubleshoot electrical problems ?
test your temperature gauge
test your sending unit
test your fan motor
test your thermostat
Troubleshoot your Radiator Fan circuit and Fan Switch Circuit

if you don't know how to do all that, don't start cutting wires everywhere, take it to a good Honda shop

It is a 1993 Honda Accord LX with 216000 miles and counting. Yes, I have checked the relay, motor is obviously good since it comes on while the ac is on. I have already changed the thermostat. What is puzzling is why the radiator fan only comes on only when ac is on and when I turn car off.

first off make sure you got planty of coolant ,, if so,,,,,,,,,,,make sure t-stat is opening up properly lower hose shoud get hot.. if so,,,if BOTH fans still will not come on bypass the fan switch, the 1 at the t-stat housing, unplug it and jump the 2 wires together, if FANS will turn on, you got a bad switch,
try and post results. .
.By the way you know that both fans should turn on wether you have the a/c on or when engine coolant gets hot enough

'93 is one of the years that has the fan timer module, right? That's in addition to the fan relays you've already checked. That module would be a good thing to check if the fans DON'T run when you jumper the fan switch.
