Default Damn defi tach wont work

So I decided to throw in my defi tach today that I had sitting around. Last time I had it hooked up it worked perfect. But for some reason I can't get it to work. The needle lights up, the whole tach like half way lights up and the little lights on the box that set ur shift points light up. And whats wierd is the tach is only lit up win my lights are off. When I turn my lights on the tach lights go off(needle stays lit though). I have the power and neg hooked up from the stereo harness, the allumination put in the dash light fuze and the ignition on wire hooked up to the fat yellow wire comming out of the steering column.

This is the correct wire for the signal isnt it?

bad pic sorry. orange into the yellow stearing column wire

I think maybe the tach is jsut screwed up, how I dont know. Worked fine when I took it outta my old car. But for what ever reason the needle stays at 2k on or off. Any suggestions would be apreciated. Thanks.

check voltage across it... tachs usually stay at the last rpm they were at when u turn them off.

use the right spot for your rpm signal, the correct one is by your clutch slave cly.

How the hell do you have that thing wired up?

The signal wire looks correct. Although I always get the signal from the cluster or ECU so I don't have to go through the firewall.

thanks for the wiring comments lol. The previous owner had a ghetto alarm in the car so really all of that is his handy work. And really the pic makes it look more of a messs than it really is.
