Default oil filter change - dented the filter, is it okay?

EDIT- dear god are these big. Sorry, they arent mine; they are my buddies

Recently a friend of mine changed their 02 civic oil filter and in the process dented the casing a little bit.

This is NOT the filter ON the car, but looks exactly like the one that IS on the car, dented.

lemme know what your opinion is, or if it will raise the pressure too much.

TIA

Sebastian

no a dented filter is NOT OKAY. you only have to hand tighten, don't use a wrench.

Just replace it, and use your hand to put it on.

Thanks for the replies!

My friend informs me its a tight fit for a hand, so he used the wrench to tighten... I just called him, he told me the picture is a little bit worse than the one actually on there.

I thought it might cause some problems, I made this thread to advise my friend a few hundred miles away from me cause I couldnt be there firsthand.

I will refer him to this thread!

Thanks again

Tight Fit? All Hondas are a "tight fit" due to the placement of the filter (atleast on B-series motors).

Regardless tell him to jack it up and get under the car rather then trying to change it from the top.

I have never seen the car in person... ITs an 02 Civic, apparantly he thinks the oil filter is in an odd location.

I dunno... can anyone verify the location of the filter on an 02 civic?

either way, hes stopping on the way home to get a new filter

EP3's aren't that bad to get to. he should be able to get in there and hand tighten it. I do about 5-10 RSX/TSX/TL/RL's a day. TSX's, RSX's, and b-series motors are all about the same difficulty to get to.

there is no difference of filter location on a d-b series... hell, even h-f series. the only location that differs is the v6's, and k series. k series being the toughest imo... and not even that tough

Any clue why honda seems to make it difficult to locate the oil filter?

As opposed to a company such as BMW who's oil filters are in plain view and stupid easy to get to.
