I can feel the transmission in my car starting to burn out. I bought it around February, and since I bought it I noticed the odometer was broken and stuck at 122,000 miles. Well, ever since I bought it, I've noticed sometimes when I'm driving at a lower RPM (it's an automatic), like around 1500-2000 rpm, the car has trouble speeding up, like it'll drive at that one speed as I push down the accelerator, then when I push it down far enough, the RPM just hops up to 4k rpm and the car flies then changes gears. I'm guessing that the transmission shifts downa gear and then changes again as I get out of that low RPM range. Anyway, My questions is what I can do to maybe somehow make it live me out a little bit longer, atleast until I graduate highschool next year. Or maybe it's something else in the car that's cheaper to fix? Thanks

Sounds like the transmission is going...I had a similar problem except that my dropped out of gear. When I pulled over, shut the car off, left it sit for 5 seconds, started it back up, it would go back into gear about 95% of the time. I just dropped the tranny from my car and am going to replace the internal filter as well as the torque converter....probably going to do a rebuild myself to save me a little money. Is the TCU throwing any codes?

 

Forgive me for asking, but whats TCU? =X
