Water in my motor, dont know how but i did
Herres the deal, i was driving to get some movies last night and it was raining bad here in NJ for almost 48 hours. there was alot of standing water, i went through a puddle that maybe had 6-12 inches, it was dark and i really couldnt tell. My moytor stumbled for aboit but it stayed running so i though i might have just gotten some elctrical wet.....Well it rained pretty hard all night, and today around 2pm i go to start my car and it wouldnt turn over at all. Popped open the hood and thre was fresh water everywhere, there was water inthe air box as well. I took out the air box and let it dryed itoff and let it dru inthe sun. the filter is shot. I pulled of the intake tube and sure enough there was water in it, as well as a trail of water going into the throttle body. I pulled the plugs and crank the engine over for and it wouldnt start up at all. redid the same process two more times and thenthe motor turned over. it was running rough for about 2 mins then shut off. I started it back up again and it turned right over and idled smoothly. I let the car heat up to operating temp and did a compression test and it went as follows
225, 220 , 210, 210
these are lower than a previous test i had done before a valve adjustment
i had hit 250 psi in every cylinder
i drove the car around and there is a noticeable idle stumple it drops to about 2 bars...something definitly isnt right.
i called my insurance company and they have someone coming out to look at it on wednesday? Anyone have any experiance witht his? my insurance company is usaa

here is a bit of an update drove the car around more aggresively and its severely lacking power, defintly bent some valves. It also has a real loud pitch whine that it never had. Its not from the differential I can make the sound happen when at a stop and revving it up. Im getting a rental througn my insurance and the adjuster or insurance company car inspector is coming out on wednesday...... The thing is i know if there bent valves they can be fixed but i would be a bit worried and bothered. The car starts up fine but after driving the idle stumbles a bit, any s2k owner would also immediatley notice that the car is struggling to get going, not sure an insurance adjuster is going to notice this...I just dont want to be left with a damaged motor, in all actuality i rather it be replaced
I would have pulled the valve cover and looked at the retainers. Hopefully it didn't have enough water to hydrolock and blow the rings. Did you do a leakdown test also btw? Check if your MAP sensor is water clogged also. I'd have Honda do a teardown on the head and spec it.
Good luck
Good luck
interesting, i always thought the stock intake had that extra chamber in it to prevent hydrolock. it was raining bad in NJ, i had my car out all weekend.
sorry man, hope all gets fixed

well im the third owner of this car, and who ever had this before me dremeled that thin plastic divider out. Im not sure it would have made a difference there was plenty of water in there...im just hoping my insurance company handles this quickly

hey i live in north west nj and it rained like 4 inches steady all weekend, i had no problems with my stock intake. deffinately repost and let me know if the insurance company would cover something like that.
goodluck man, it would suck if u had to start replacing engine parts blindly to troubleshoot. i wonder if you could use a bottle of those additives u can add to the gas and oil to get h20 out of the engine? they sell them at most auto stores...

i think the insurance will defitely cover that because it was a natural disaster damage. im pretty sure u r aware that insurance company is really cheap but if its possible, i woul just demand for new motor because back in the days, i had my integra motor hydrolocked. I changed the fluid and the car starts but after few months of driving the car, the rod snapped on me because i think part of this is the hydrolocked issue that i had in the past. I wasnt not even punching the car when it snapped, i was just cruising at 80mph on e-way. Then again, its hard to convicne the insurance to spare u a new motor. Let us know whatever happen to settlement
update im having the car towed to the honda dealer. I already talke dto them and my insurance company would have sent me to honda anyway...id rather the adjsuter deal with honda

it does.. and it should have a couple of small holes at the bottom of the first chamber...

my bad the divider is still there

i know the stock intake has a couple of holes but, i got enough water throughout the whole engine bay, i dunno its freak thing
Just spoke with my insurance company, and they are going to cover it. I had the car towed to honda yesterday and the appraiser will go look at it there.
I talked to the appraiser yesterday and I told him, that the s2000's rods are forged and that for as far I know and i searrched s2ki, no one has ever bend an s2000 rod, snapped them yes...I told him i have a big compression loss in every cylinder, so maybe some valves are bent. he luaghed at me saying a hydrolocked motor cant bend valves. IS that true? Im sure if there was enough water in there even on the upstroke there could have been a chance it could have bent an exhaust valve
they guy also implied i have bent valves, it could be from an over rev or valves out of spec. He can rule out both, I had my valves adjusted by honda 2 months ago, and ive never over revved or misshifted in s2000. I told him honda can scan the ecu for the max rpm

I think that only the rods can be bent/snapped when water is ingested, since the valves are seated against the head when compression takes places. Although you never know........

x2 The rods and the rings go. Probably the reason why you have low compression.

i just got a call from honda and spoke with the service manager, they already did a compression and leakdown test and its horrible, i didnt get any specifics. he said being that there also seems to be water in the oil, they are going to suggest the estimator that the best course of action is a new short block, they dont want to take a chance of the rods looking good and then snapping in the future..etc the downtime for a new short block is a lot better thant he downtime to have things machined and assembled

yeah a couple of people told me i should do that

heres an update. The head Honda tech for my dealer is doing the work on my car, he did a comrpession test and it hit 216, 216, 216, 214. He said he see bo sign of water contaimination in the cyliner. I told him about the high pitch whine noice i was getting when the car is at a stop, he sugggested that it might be the alternator bearing. So I said well for my own peace of my mind, i woul dlike a leakdown test done, at this point the Honda tech says or compression numbers on this motor are perfect for a 45k motor, a leakdown test is not going to show anything. I said thats not true, you can have good compression numbers and a high leakdown numbers. On a warm motor at 45k, i should be looking for 3-5% right? So there gonan reasssemble the airbox tomorrow do an oil change and then a leakdown test and another compression test, so ill know by 11am tomorrow whats up. Im just hoping i dont have any unseen and hidden problems. But am i off for asking for a leakdown test? after all i am paying my deductable to cover at tleast the services theyve done so far
