91 Accord overheating and thermostat question
1st question is this: Where is the thermostat on the 91 Accord EXR? I had someone tell me it was located where the upper hose goes to the motor, but I've seen elsewhere that on Hondas, they're at the lower hose.
Lately (last week or so) the engine's been running warm, with the fan kicking on after I've shut the car off and am walking away from it. Today we were on the highway and I noticed the temperature needle climbing and climbing till dangerously close to the red.
Checked the coolant...the reservior was bone dry but the rad was full. So filled the reservoir, but didn't help.
On the way home, the needle kept climbing. Had to shut the car off 4 times to cool it off. Seems to cool off a little once I slow down, but not much.
Even when starting cold, the temp rises very quickly.
Bro in law says it sounds like the thermostat. Anyone else have any thoughts?

thermostat is top of the block where the rad enter in.
after you replace the t-stat do a pressure test and share the results

Thermostat is located on the left side of the intake below the intake hose (back of engine) you'll see the bottom radiator hose loop around the left side of the engine and go into the bottom of the intake where the thermostat cover is held on by two 10mm bolts. There is also a Green connector on the T-Stat housing which is the temp control switch for the fans. That might help you locate it.
Sounds like there is no flow in your cooling system. I had the same problem my car would overheat while running, top hose would BOIL and lower hose was cool as hell. I installed an OEM thermostat (definetly different from napa) and still had the problem fans would not kick on at idle because the temp switch for the fans is located at the t-stat and t-stat was not opening because the waterpump was not circulating water to bring hot water to open it.
How many miles are on your car? It might be time to change your waterpump.
This is what the waterpump looked like that came out of my 30-50k JDM motor and I had the same symptoms you describe:

I'm at my last post allowed for today, dumb rule.. but whatever. I'll check back tomorrow.
Good luck,
B.

I'll have to keep that in mind
I knew honda was crazy for a while placing the alt on the bottom of the car but the t-stat as well? wow that has to suck when removing that one........
