Very strange clutch problem that I can't figure out....
Ok, here's the story.
I replaced my clutch this weekend. I put everything back together, hooked up the cable, and got in to fire the car up. I push the clutch and hear a clunk or pop. Let it out, push it again, and hear a ping sound, and the pedal just drops to the floor. At first I thought it was the cable, but it's not. I can pull the clutch lever all of the way up by hand. I think I can hear the throw out bearing hitting the pressure plate or the fingers on the plate, but the lever is way up by the time it hits from what I can tell. At first I thought it was the spring on the throwout bearing, but that doesn't explain why the pedal drops to the floor, right? Shouldn't the bearing still push the fingers on the plate?
I'll tear it apart soon, but does anyone have any idea what I'm going to be looking at? I'm stuck at work worried out of my mind.

MAybe you forgot to tighten that bolt the sits on the rod next to the TO bearing. That is the only way I can see this happening. If it was the spring that broke or unhooked you would still be able to actuate the clutch. Either way you still have to open it up again. That sucks.

I never loosened that bolt. I was able to get the spring on without loosing that. I guess I'll find out what went wrong tonight. Taking it all back apart sucks!
With the cable off I can pull the lever up and down to beyond where the bearing would normally hit the pressure plate. The cable was tight, and suddenly the pedal dropped clear to the floor with zero resistance. After removing the cable, I can feel the lever moving with no resistance also, but it moves really far instead of stopping where it should be hitting the pressure plate. It doesn't make sense to me, unless the pressure plate somehow broke.
It was the spring that broke. I guess the lever goes up so far because the clutch is brand new (so the pressure plate fingers are very flat).
