Default 9005 for low beams?

I recently bought 9006 for the low beams and 9005 for the highs

I was wondering if I could use 9005 for the highs because the 9006's are a little too dim than the factory ones i used to have

Is this possible or will my headlights catch on fire, melt, explode, etc.?

Yes, Myself, DrDisco69, and my bro in law all have the high beams in the low beams. A little Dremel work and they slip right in there.

do people get blinded with the high beams or are they angled down enough so it doesnt bother them?

Sounds like you got some really cheap headlights. Spend the extra $20 and get some sylvania silverstar bulbs they work pretty good compared to stock replacements.

dont mess around with those blue bulbs they take away from the visible light spectrum (what you need)

What they are doing is putting the high beam bulb in the low beam slot.

The low beam bulb generally has a little bit of paint on the very tip to eliminate glare for other drivers. Personally, I prefer not blinding the people coming right at me with tons of glare.

Just my .02.

While I agree that the Silverstars look and work great, the part frequently left out is that they have 25% the life of a regular halogen. And they are a little expensive to replace four times more often than regular bulbs.

However, the 9005 conversion will get you the improvement in lighting without the same sacrifice in bulb life. Straight 9005 bulbs are rated for a little less than 9006 but not a significant amount.
And as far as additional glare, not really an issue. I've had this conversion for awhile with no flashes from oncoming traffic, at least not for my bulbs. The shape of the low beam housing/lens takes care of this more than the actual bulb.

You'll notice a much greater improvement by keeping your lenses and windsheild clean that you'll ever get from these headlights, w/o the added glare. Besides, I can see at least 8 seconds ahead with my low beams at 60mph. That's plenty!

Anything that adds to the blindness of other drivers is a no-no.

I have a feeling that most, if not all, of the people saying it blinds other drivers with additional glare, etc, have never even done this mod.

The difference with the 9005's in the low beam slots is great, but by no means is it goign to blind anyone. They're still not nearly as bright as a lot of the newer cars on the road.

I don't have any experience with the projectors. I was talking about the people using the OEM headlight housings.

9005/9006 conversion doesnt blind anyone. the high beam is not constructed or guide the light any differently than the low beams. it is the reflector in the headlight housing that guides the light, so there is no issue of "blinding" ppl. the one exception in the construction of the 9005 is the tip of the bulb is not coated. which is fine and even better for helping to illuminate whats in front of you. but doesnt giude the light into oncoming traffics view.

i wouldnt bother with silverstars. they blow out too often and its a fact they are not made to last as long as OEM bulbs.

here is an example of the difference between 9005 and 9006. you can tell which is brighter. these bulbs i got used from the junkyard quite frankly. the difference is not huge, but for a really cheap modification, its worth it. its quite safe, ive been doing it for years.

Well keep your .02 to yourself cause you know nothing. Silverstars still don't produce enough light. THe high beams DO NOT blind on coming traffic. Let me just say HID blind on coming traffic. So you would rather have dim low beams that you can't see with? Also keep your mouth shut if you haven't done it.
