Default B18C1 Block, B16 head, black smoke PLEASE help!

K I have a 00 si with a b18c1 block and pr3-3 b16 head, running on P2T ecu... dc 4-1 header, intake and thats it. The car blows black smoke when I hit vtec or get on it, not horribly, but it does and it has really started to bother me just cuz i know people are seeing it... the car hesitates and acts odd in vtec... like i'll hit vtec and it will kind of be studdering or something... inside the exhaust is lined with black silt and obviously inside the header is also thick with black carbon / silt buildup... is the car running rich? timing ? what could it be, any help would rly be appreciated

On a sidenote: I have been ocasionally getting code 61 which is for primary O2 sensor slow, do you guys think this is the cause ? I know I need to replace it, so no one needs to tell me that but could this make the car run rich or blow black smoke?

Also I ocasionally smell the fumes of gas... This all could be pointing to one problem that im just not seeing or something help me out someone!

Fix your CEL's and your problem will most likely go away.

Really, just for O2 sensor ? It comes on ocassionally like once every 2-3 weeks ... I've had O2 sensors go bad before on other bseries motors but it's never blown black smoke...

yes seeing that the o2 sensor tells the ecu to cut or add fuel

I just got off the phone with a technician at honda that told me the O2 sensor would have absolutely nothing to do with smoking ....

check you timing, but he is wrong smoking(running rich) can be caused by a faulty o2 sensor. what does the smoke smell like? in a circustances you should actually be running lean since your running on a 1.6 map instead of a 1.8 map

who ever u talked to at honda is a damned retard. if the o2 sensor cant read right then it adds more fuel and runs rich which blows out unburned fuel (black smoke) fix ur cel. if something is wrong then fix it.
