5th Generation Transmission Swap
I was reading a post by Turbowa on swapping the transmission from the auto to the 5speed. There are so many problems that mechanics have told me that I will run into. First, since the spline sizes on the half shafts are different, wouldn't i need to replace the hubs with ones that came off a 5speed? In the 6th gen swap, that wasn't included, but it also stated it was a quick post. I am really determined to successfully do the swap. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks to anyone that can help me.
ive never heard of replacing the hubs....but then again ive only heard of a few people doing the swap, and few details from them. one guy locally i know did it, but i havent seen him in like 2 years
I appreciate the help. I have never heard of changing the hubs either, until a friend brought up the question. I called the dealer and the part numbers were different. I have been looking, but have you seen a guide to doing the tranny swap on the 5th gen?
I'm pretty sure the 5th Gen swap isn't too different from the 4th and 6th.
I've done alot of research on doing the swap, and I'm only a driver's CV, Clutch, Slave cylinder, and M/T starter away from doing it. Personally I have a 4th Gen SE model, the drivers side CV is a different length between the auto and manual, I'm sure if you go look in parts websites, the 5th Gen is probably the same (Drivers side only having different numbers for A/T and M/T) but it wouldnt make sense for Honda to skip a generation and make it have different spline counts for the two transmissions.
In either case, it's good to have a good salvage yard nearby just in case.
Brendan.
