98-02 Accord tires size help...
Hi accord peeps. Before anyone flames I did a search.
My g/f owns a 99 Accord lx sedan that is lowered with eibach pro-kits. I got her some tenzo av-7 with 205-40-17 in the past and she bent the rims. So now she's been riding on the stock wheels and tires.
My question is what is the biggest size I can run on 17X7 wheel? I think 215-45-17 is what people recommend most. I would really want to run 225-45-17's or 215-50-17's. Is this possible without rubbing? She plans to get the Wings West body kit in a few months btw.
If anyone has any input is much appreciated. Thanks

I ran 17x7.5 5Zigen Corpe's for a while on 225/50/17 but had to ditch them because they rubbed like sunuvabich. I was looking for maximum contact with the road but was also afraid of bending a wheel.
I would suggest 215/45 or even 215/50 (sort of a rare size) on a 17x7.
You might investigate Yoko A520's. They have a metal band that runs along the sholder of the tire. Gives it great turn in and helps deflect potentially dangerous potholes and whatnot.

When compared to stock 195/60-15 wheels and tires, 225/50-17 would have a bigger diameter due to aspect ratio. Your speedometer would be 6.8% too slow. Meaning when your speedometer shows 60mph, your your actually going 64.1mph. If that is ok with you, go ahead.

6th gens come with:
4 cylinder: 195/65-15
V-6: 205/65-15 or 205/60-16
if your concern is of bending a wheel you should go down to 16's
look on tire sites and compare to see what sizes correlate to wheel diameters for 205/40/17, thats too teeny IMO, plus you would want a tire with a steel reinforced/nylon etc side wall
or go down to 16's

195/65-15 compared to 225/50-17 is only 3.5%. Thats not as bad. I used to have 215/40-17. That was a big mistake. The sidewalls were to small the rims got bent up and cracked pretty badly within 6 months. Now I run 205/55-15.
Thanks for all that replyed. I think most of you guys ditched the 215-50-17's. Yes is a rare size and the place im getting them have it. Im leaning towards the 215-45 or the 225-45... Unfortunately the rim she likes only comes in 17's. I would agree going down to 16's but 98+Accords have a big wheel well and looks better with 17's imo. I dont really care for the speedo off a few mph's because she doesnt race anyways.. just for looks.
Thanks again all ... for yall's help
