I just got my jdm thin side moldings in the mail and one piece has a scratch about and inch long. I dont want to send them back and I'm planning on painting them anyway. Has anyone ever repaired them? I was thinking some thin body filler would do the trick. Any suggestions?

 

just paint over it

 

The scratch will still be visible because it isnt level with the rest of the molding.

 

yeah body filler but sand the scratch out a little before you wipe it to give it some stick and use a little rattle can primer before you paint em

 

body filler sand and paint it with trim paint. paint for moldings and trim to make it look stock

 

What would you guys suggest for painting them to look like stock?

Semi-gloss black? (eg rustoleum spray can)

 

DuPont trim paint!

 

or SEM trim black

 

because the molding is not metal, it doesnt stick well to the molding. ive tried filling a scratched molding and it peeled after a few months unlike the rest of the car which held up fine.

 

ok if you want to get technical there is dura mix or bumper repair it sands close to the same as bondo and it wont peel

 

jus thought id share that i just picked up my set of passwordjdm's thin side moldings for 85 bucks! woo hoo!. .... just adds to my INSTALL list of stuff i got layin in the garage waiting to be installed.
