1997 RHD Acura Integra GS-R
Well, first off, I have a question about right hand drive. Is everything in the car flipped? Like the engine and the transmission, will it be a hassle to maintain a rhd in the US?
The reason I ask is because there is a guy that is selling his RHD Integra for $12,000 and I spoke with him on the phone and he said the lowest he could go was $11,000 in cash. I asked him what was wrong with the car, he told me that it was all in good condition, the only problem with the car was that the A/C was messed up, but he said that it could be easily replaced just by swapping out the part from another Integra.
Is it illegal to drive a RHD in California?
And also, the car has about 59K Kilometers is what he told me, and he said that is about 80K miles.
Why do you think this guy wants to sell this car for so cheap? I asked him and he said that he really needed the money bad, but a 97 RHD GS-R for $11,000 cash? Dont you guys thing he can easily sell it on Ebay for about 14K+?
Well if you drop by, please input your thoughts, and please answer my questions.

Why would you say that? Do you think im better off just buying a LHD Integra and switching out the headlight for the JDM Front End Conversion?

1. theres no such thing as a RHD GSR, especially not from 1997
2. Kilometers is ALWAYS higher than miles. let me repeat, ALWAYS. if it has 57k kilometers it has like 30k or so miles.
3. not everything is backwards, just the brake master cylinder and a few things on the firewall, as well as the interior obviously
4. that price really isn't cheap especailly since registering a RHD car in Cali is gonna cost you an arm and a leg.
hang on let me edit: if it is a RHD GSR it was converted to RHD. you don't want someone else's hack job.

Then what is wrong with this guy? He clearly posted RHD in the camera ad.
And I asked how many miles, he said that the dash read 59kilos, but it probably had 80k miles.
Does the brake cylinder messup easily? What is in the firewall? Im a complete noob, since ive never owned a car, and this might be my car.
And he told me the car is already registered in California.

The only major difference between lhd and rhd is the steering column and pedals (and all the stuff they attach to). Stuff for the motor/trans should be the same, but something like a steering rack might be hard to come by.
11k for a '97 GSR isn't much of a deal, especially if it's stock. Retail value is 9.5k and private party value is around 7k. How much are you willing to pay to be the only kid on your block to have rhd?
I can see the attraction if your wanting to do a JDM ITR conversion, but driving on the wrong side of the car really sucks. Once you get used to it your totally screwed when you go to drive anything else.
AFAIK, there's nothing illegal with driving a RHD car, but I would look real close at the paperwork where it was imported. If it's not all in order, you could get stung later on.
Oh, and 59k kilometers is 36.6k miles, roughly 1.6 kilometers to a mile.

When they do a Conversion for RHD, they cut out the whole front clip(that being the complete front end with Firewall)and weld in the RHD one.
Assuming he had it converted, you'd Really have to see good pics and check it out in person, just to make sure it's not falling apart.
If you don't want to do something like that yourself, with all the work involved,
and it's done well, then just buy it, you'll have to get use to driving on the other side.

Now Im sort of starting to steer away from this car, I still somewhat want it. What if this car was stolen from another part of the world then imported here. Is there anyway I can get in trouble for purchasing it?

Getting used to driving on this side will be no problem because, for one, Ive always sat in the passenger side of the car, and am used to the right side, and also, I am left-handed, therefore, it would make it much easier for me to shift.

No, the gearing is the same.. I'm pretty sure anyways .. haha
What he meant with the difference in the car, Everything in the engine bay Except for where the brakebooster, and steering column are, will be the same as a LHD.
And then for the interior, it'd be just like LHD, but swapped to the right side,
door panels also along with the steering, wheel and such.

honestly 12k for a 97 gsr is a rip off, who cares if its JDM...youre only 15, why do you want to deal with the hassle of owning a RHD, you obviously are still learning about cars. sorry for coming off as a jackass, but i think youre gonna run into a lot of problems especially with cops in CA, and you cant always come on h-t crying about them
I dont think its really such a good idea to have a rhd vehicle for a first car. Buy something you dont really care a whole lot about in case you wreck it. If you wanna drive a rhd vehicle, become a mailman when you grow up.
yeah.. shift pattern is the same as well as pedal orientation (clutch brake gas) is still from left to right.
i can imagine having a RHD car as a toy/track car/show car but for a daily driver i feel is not a good investment. maintenance and repair wouldnt be too much of an issue since we love japans garbage, but there are other things to consider when driving a RHD car on the road.
registration difficult/expense - i hear different stories of successful registration in California at the same time i hear horror stories. i have three friends that own true RHD cars here in CA and one jumped through the hoops and legtimately registred his car... the other two took "short cuts"
insurance and liability - good luck finding an insurance company willing to insure you. if you do find one i doubt you will be pleased with the rates. also, if you figure into an accident, someone who really wanted to can use the whole "driving on the wrong side" against you.
daily driving - there are some aspects to driving a RHD drive on the right side of the street you have to consider. your pov isn't ideal for the right side of the road (right turns, parallel parking)
consider your options. for 11,000 in cash you can buy a US integra plus A LOT of extras.

very true... no it is not a good idea to buy it. Keep it usdm so you'll have less trouble later on.

likewise except for the sedan part. and no, most conversions are not a front end clip swap, just a firewall swap.
