itr engine will not crank
well guys i've been workin on my swap for a little over a month and a half. I have been through so many pitfalls with my teg. A full rebuild on my gsr engine that lasted not even 4 months, and now a jdm itr swap that i cant seem to figure out. Well i finally got my jhp obd2b to obd2a jumper in so i could use my jdm itr ecu. When we got the jdm itr engine bolted in and wired up ot would somewhat start on the gsr ecu, it wouldnt run great but it sounded ok. Well now that i'm using the jdm ecu it will turn over but not start, so i swapped the gsr ecu back in and it does the same, turns over but wont start. It has fuel you can smell it in the exhaust which means that the injectors are firing, fuel is on the plugs when i pull them out so i know its in the combustion chamber, so i check the spark its ok, i pulled the plug out and laid it on a clean metal part of the engine and it consistanly sparks when it should. So i'm at a loss, i hold my thumb over the spark plug hole, and it sucks and blows, so comp is there. So i have fuel, i have spark and i have air, but i dont have a running engine. If anyone can ofer any advice i'm open to any input, if anyone is able to help in anyway becasue i'm about fed up with it. Like i said it ran good enough on the gsr ecu to drive it from cleveland tn to dalton ga, and after we got it here it cranked several times on several different occasions. But now i cant get it to start only turn over.
ok so i forgot to mention i threw a code last night on the jdm ecu, it was a code 20, two long cel flashed, which is an electronic load ditection(ELD), also threw a intake air temp (IAT) code 10. DOnt know why it threw the ELD and it didnt throw it every time i reset the ecu, it only threw it once and i havent seen it since. HOwever i had the IAT code on both ecu's. SO now i'm thinking its electrical or something, it cant really be much else sense everything else seems to be working correctly.
this is a jdm p73 itr ecu, from my research it does not have a immobilizer, and i was wondering if it looked for the secondary 02 sensor.
hope this doesnt get moved to hybrid because people in there dont reply and when they do they misinform or just dont really help that much.

Given your other problem, I would say you have something going on with your electrical system. Strip the car of the alarm and any other kill switches and try from there. What engine harness do you have? Has it been spliced or is it whole and uncut?

the harness is an uncut 00usdm gsr harness, no kill switches, no alarm. No splices no anything, i'm so ****** sick of this car. I mean seriously it ran 3 days ago and now it doesnt and all it did was sit there in between!

i can track down someone with diagnostic equip, but how is that doing to really help me? I already know the codes and what they are for and what thee systems consist of. It is most def some sort of a electrical issue, and its ******* crazy! I just dont know what else to check, i'm out of ideas thats why i came here to see if anyone has advice.
Dave_B...where are you located?
I lied there was 1 splice or cut or whatever you wish to call it. There was a broken plug on my gsr harness that was not broken on the itr harness and it was one wire (blue/pink) near the im and i cut the plug off the jdm harness and put it on the gsr harness, but i pretty sure i didnt expletive up my entire engine harness by swapping one plug out...lol.

1) Why are you using a GSR harness with a B18C engine and P73 ECU?
2) Is the engine stock?
3) If your smelling gas out of the exhaust then maybe you are running too rich and flooding the engine. Crank the motor over, pull the plugs and shine a light down on the pistons. Are they wet?
4) What size injectors are you running?
5) Did you install everything using a Helms?
6) Have you tested/checked the distributor?

1) becasue i already had the harness and it will work with the engine, i couldnt use the jdm harness that came with it becasue if the RHD LHD chasis, the p73 is out of the same halfuct that the engine came out of in japan. Also i'm using an obd2b to obd2a jumper so the p73 will plug to the obd2b harness.
2)it is a bone stock 99 jdm itr engine
3) I'll check it! the plugs are wet buti dont know how much fuel is in the cylinder
4)oem for the JDM ITR
5)Yes it has been my best friend for the past month and a half!
6)I have, but not as extensivley as i should, i will be checking it more when i get home. I do have spark but i also know that having spark does not mean that it is working properly it may be a weak spark. I'm going to chek the coil and igniter when i get home.

Cool...thanks for answering those.
1) When checking the distributor (per helms instructions) are you using a volt/ohm meter with a digital read out or needle?
2) Have you bothered messing with the idle set screw or the throttle stop screw to see if you can get the car to idle?
3) Is the IACV working properly?
4) Have you double checked all the clips associated with the throttle and intake manifold?
5) Are your spark plug wires properly installed (correct firing order)?

1) digital, not an expensive one, but its decent.
2) no it will not crank, only turn over so i have not bothered the idle screw or throttle stop screw at all.
3)The IACV that came on the engine was not good, it wouldnt work and the engine wouldnt crank, so we swapped the one from my gsr over to it. Worked ok, well ok enough to crank it and run it.
4) yes, but i will do it again
5) havent checked it recently, but it ran before and they havent been moved around since then. But i will double check when i get home.

I'd go with that. Fix the plugged you messed with, make sure it is clean and not exposed/touching anyhting else. ELD usually means that there is a short somewhere.

i assumed that the eld ment there was a short, i searched and foung that one member repaierd his eld code by replacing a messed up alternator cable. And you'd go with what, check the flooding issue, and you are saying check the plug that i swapped or, check the spark plug?

I'd say get in the car and turn the pig over until it fires up, if you kill the battery then you have a different problem. Keep the throttle open and turn it over, if its flooded then it will eventually start. You could also take the plugs out and let them dry out.
The reason I say make sure that plug you cut is fine is because that might be the reason for your ELD.

You dont know how many times i have sat in it the past two days and cranked til the battery dies, hook up the battery charger and do it all over again...lol.
I have checked the plug double checked it and then checked it again casue i got bored...lol. Its i wire i'm no dumbadd when it comes to wiring i think i did it right.
this is one super ****** wierd thing that i noticed...when i'd hook up the battery charger the wires that attach to the clips that you hook to the posts would get hot to the touch...another thing that makes me think that there is a short in there somewhere.

^^^I hate electrical stuff, someone will chime in on this issue.
As for the thermo ground, it NEEDS to be hooked up.

yeah thats what i'm hoping! Idont mind electrical issues, but when i get a problem like this its rediculous! I'll check the thermo, it is possible that i overlooked it, but i will double check it.

should the thermo ground look like the large wires on the V/C and trans? Does someone hae a pic of what its supposed to look like and where its supposed to go...i dont think its hooked up...but it may be.
*EDIT: If its a set of two or three wires that are ona ring connector and attached to the harness then its hooked up...if not i cant find it...lol

Forgot to post and tell you guys that one of my friends said i should check the ecu to make sure that its working properly...so i called up my friend with a 00 gsr, like mine used to be. Well he came over we pulled his kick pannel and unplugged his ecu and plugged my jumper and ecu up to his harness...and out for a spin we go. It works great, engages his vtec, everything, no cel's or anything. So that definatley takes one factor out of the equation. I have checked fuses and checked fuses, but i will double check them all...again...
