Default Your Opionions on M&H D.O.T. Approved Street/Slicks...Im having no luck with these?

Hey Everyone,

I was just curious if anyone else has used M&H Racemaster Street/Strip D.O.T. approved slicks?

Ive run these about 40 or so passes now and havent had any luck.....my best 60 Ft time has been a 1.90. That was with my back raised a good 2.5 inches as well as full race traction bars. The size is 205/60-13s.

Every time i pass i heat this things up beyond belief. Ive tried from 5 psi to 15 psi and hasnt helped any. Im honestly roasting these things off the line. Ive tried every RPM. HELP!!!

I have a ls/vtec with id say right around 200whp. I shouldnt be spinning these things, or should I?

Any info would be much appreciated....should i just go with the real slick?

There not a radial, more like a slick with two grooves cut into it.

This is what im wondering though....is it a grag radial? Or a slick?

I dont see how these are slicks with the traction im getting!

I run these tires too. The are very close to true slicks. I personally haven't had a really good lauch with them, only a 2.0, but two other local guys ran with them and they were able to pull 1.8's. I'm in an all-motor ef as well with exactly 202whp. It is tough launching an all-motor honda. Super high rpms and clutch slippage doesn't make for a smooth launch. I actually have trouble because my clutch doesn't slip hard enough, basically the kinetic friction isn't enough for a badass launch.

Default M & H tires

My brother and I ran 205/60-13 dot's last fall on our VW Golf (about 60 passes) with a best 60' of about 1.80, et of 11.58 and 122 mph. We tested pressures and launches, settling with 2nd gear launches. We discovered we were turning the wheel inside the tire and ended up securing the tires with SS screws. After fixing the launch issue, we worked with pressures and temps with pretty good results in the end.

we were about 350 hp with a tranny set up to match our power curve and run out 4th at the end of the quarter. We never went to 5th and got somewhat consistent by the end of the season. Be sure to find out where your power is in the revs, match that to your gearing and tire diameter to fully use the hp you have. There are lots of calculators online to help you figure this stuff out.

I like the tires and John couldn't be easier to work with. Don't settle on a tire issue, there might be other factors to consider. Make sure your "systems" like hp gearing, suspension, brakes all jive.

good luck.

I have hasport street/strip mounts.

Suspension def needs some work and this could be where my problem is. I have tokico blue struts with skunk 2 coilovers. FOr awhile this is what i though the prob was but i found some old threads about these tires and how couple people where having no luck with them either. Do you think its in the suspension?

Your right, i do believe there are alot of factors that go into a true good launch.....

And that could be exactly the case for me. You guys seem to have some pretty good luck with them but ive found some old threads on here where guys didnt have any luck either and went to a true slick and it completly turned around for them......

I guess i just need to mess around with my suspension and gearing a little more.

Thanks for the help!

that could be the problem. different compounds like different amounts of heat. you could be getting them TOO hot, making them greasy. try doing a smaller burnout.

also get an infrared thermometer and have one of your buddies check temps on the inside, outside, and middle of the tires after the burnout. record these numbers as well as your 60' from that pass.

first of all, try to correlate the overall average temp of the tire with what gets you a good 60'. then you can use that to figure out how long of a burnout you need for optimum launches.

also comparing the inside, outside and middle temps will tell you if you need to change your alignment (camber and toe mostly) or tire pressure to get optimum hook,

1.9 is still a good time on a drag slick. skunk2 coils can lower a car bout 4". how low is your front and is it cambered?

no its aligned pretty accuratly.....My front is decently low.....but i have my back raised a good bit...

Heres a pic https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1591108

1.9 is horrible when a 1.6-1.7 can be run on a stock b16 with open dif.

when u look at your wheel from the front of your car, do your front wheels look like they're on an angle. this makes a big difference in traction. my 92 teg is slammed and spins 17's like no tomorrow and at stock height, 14's own her...lol. its all about contact patch and correcting camber is almost like putting on a wider tire when it comes to hooking up.

hahaha....i agree...

No from the front man they exactly level. I actually aligned it at the current height just for this reason and make sure i was getting a full tire contact, evenly.

It could be suspension or mounts, but i dont see it being that big of a deal. If your car is the one in your sig, i dont think you have torque mounts either, so that could also be hurting you. I'd say just more practice, playing wiht tire pressure and launching technique. GOod luck, Paul
