Default 96-00 ps removal: Easy with motor in the car?

In a 96-00 civic, how many people have successfully done the ps removal with a breather while the motor was still in the car and not dropping the rack? Was it really tight under there or is it easily do-able?

I have a b-series, if that makes a difference in room.

You want to just loop them (i dont suggest this) or do it right and replace the rack? Its like 30x easier with the motor out.

I'm looping it with a breather(padawan kit). I know that the REAL way to do it is just to replace the rack, but I really hate the slower manual rack.

if it's absolutely impossible while the motor's in the car...maybe i'll just have to hold off. Hoping to get an answer before tomorrow when I attempt this

It is rather tight on the '96-'00 Civics, but the engine shouldn't really be in the way. The easiest way is to work from beneath, and it is mainly the cross-member that limits the amount of space you have to work in.

I did it with the motor in the car....Def. a pain but it is do able. If you've got huge fat hands I don't see it happening tho.
