89 civic si gas mileage is 32mpg highway too low?
What kinda gas mileage are you guys getting on a bone stock 89 civic si? Or 89-91 civic si? Please no crx's, and no non-si cars.
I'm seeing like 33mpg highway and 28mpg city. I just think that's low. I can't seem to figure out if I have a fuel problem or not. It might be leaky injectors, leaky injector orings or seals, could be the FPR, fuel line, fuel pump, I dunno. But I figured i'd check what others were getting for gas mileage fierst

My 90 Si would get 30-33 city/freeway. Change the plugs, cap and rotor, and most importantly, from what I've seen, put in a clean fuel filter.
28 is a bit low, 30 city is better.

i average 32 or so... seemingly regardless of how i drive. that's what i like about the little ef. I like to complain to SUV drivers while pumping gas, about the price of gas, then mine clicks done, and their tank still has 75 bucks to go. hahahaha
so yah, yours seems about right to me.

EPA says it is 28/33 (city/highway).
You could break 40 though if you drove correctly and have properly working plugs, fuel filter, air filter, and o2 sensor.

I get 30-32 with half highway, half city - obd1/D16z6 in a LX, tuned w/a wideband. When I do lots of highway milage to/from Milwaukee (with bad traffic), I get 32-34 mpg. Thats also w/the alignment eyeballed by me, still have susp work to do.
Well I have some negative camber from my koni yellow shocks, i'm on azenis tires on the street, I drive it like 75% hard i'd say. Not banging through the gears at every stop light, but the occasional speed through first, and speed through 2nd.
I guess if you guys are around 32 ish then i'm alright. It has relatively new wires, new rotor and new cap, air filter I can still see through each fin, fuel filter was replaced a year ago, I should probably do new plugs and someday I should get a set of my injectors laying around blueprinted to make sure they're up to snuff.

Start driving like a grandma (slow acceleration and don't exceed 65mph) and your highway mileage will be over 40.
Oh yeah, fix that camber too... it's killing your tires AND your mileage.

Well the car is primarily an autox car, so the negative camber from the shocks is a wanted thing, and I understand it will eat the tires and lower the gas mileage, but I was still curious as to why mine was so low.
My crx dx with the same tires and shocks was getting 38city and 39highway mpg regardless of how hard I flogged the car, or how slow of a grandma I was. I know the DPFI and MPFI are different beasts, but .....I was just concerned that 28-32 was a tad on the low side still.
I'm going to change the spark plugs and maybe pull the o2 sensor out of my other crx and see if that changed anything. Then It's time for more serious searching. I wonder if I just have a gas tank leak thats really minimal.???

My Si's average highway mileage is about 37.Xmpg. I have hit 40.X several times, but it's a once a year thing. The car is stock (with intake), and I don't do any real "city" driving. I just switched to synthetic oil (188k miles
), so I'll see if that makes any difference...
The funny thing is that I have a 94cx with 35 less horspower, and I can't get it over 35mpg (it's lowered a lot though)...

Cool, well then maybe I won't worry about it if i'm right around the mix of you other guys. There are drastic mpg above mine, and a few below mine. So I guess i'm right in the middle where I should be.
I got 33.5 mpg this weekend driving almost a constant 72mph. So I guess that's not bad. Found out that the SI isn't forgiving when you pound on it like my crx dx was. I could run through the gears at every light in that car, and it would stay the same mpg, but the SI likes to be babied a bit. Well, my SI anyways.
i just got 39 mpg in my si this weekend. the first time ever it was that high. it was about 4 solid hours of mountain driving though, so i was in 3rd and 4th gear between 3k and 4k rpm the whole time. first time my trip odometer ever got above 300 miles since ive owned the car.
I just got 38 MPG, which is about what I get every time.
This tank included 4 runs in an autocross event this last weekend though. lol and I still got 38.
I don't drive a stock Si though, it's a 90 STD with d16z6 and CRX Si tranny.
But yeah, I drive conservatively on the streets because I commute 40 miles each day.
Your MPG seems a bit low to me. I would check the regular tune up stuff, maybe clean your injectors as well. Oh, and a Seafoam treatment probably wouldn't hurt either if you haven't done that.

my friend who has a dx managed to get 47 mpg driving 71 mph from Louisiana to Texas, but he decided to tell me that after i drove his car to las vegas and back at 80 mph and only got 41 the whole way.
I have a DOHC ZC, and earlier this summer I drove 90-95 for 4 hours (my race team had left for the track without me and I had to catch up) and averaged 37 MPG. I was quite inpressed. On the way back I had all of my windows down going 85 and got 34 MPG average.
On my way up here to college I only averaged about 33, most likely because I have a lead foot, even on the highway. I used just about any excuse to go thru the gears whatever chance I got lol.

Dang, some of you guys are getting great gas mileage. Do you have full weight cars? I still have A/C in the car, but it wasn't on this weekend for my 200 mile trip, and I was happy with 33.5mpg, but I thought it would be better since I was at a steady 72-74 ish, I have and use cruise control always on the highway.
Mountain driving will usually get better gas mileage because of the thinner atmosphere (less air = less fuel).
My 89 Si is completely stock except for a cheapo intake & filter. I do like to draft cars on the freeway though (not too close of course). You can definently feel the difference at 70+ mph behind some Soccer-mom SUV. The only problem is that if you drive with the windows down, you get blown around all crazy inside because of the turbulent air. You also get a lot more rock chips...

sounds about right as well
i have owned my 91 since 90 and even after the mini me high compression swap i can still see around 332 miles or higher out of a full tank of gas
gotta <3 Honda, take care of them and they take care of you
