Default Projector Cutoff and Light Output

I have a 99 Accord with black housing projectors. I recently installed a 8500K HID Kit and am trying to figure out how to angle the projectors properly. I did notice at first that the lights were clearly not set up the same so I pulld the headlight apart to notice that one of the projector cutoffs (which I'm assuming is the thin steel plate that looks like this __/---- close as i can get it) was upside down. Or maybe it wasn't.. so what I am trying to figure out is what way are those cutoffs supposed to be situated behind the projector. I drew a crappy diagram.. does this look right? The shaded part is the cutoffs (or the thin metal pieces).

And how far in front of the car should the light begin to shine on the road?

The 'cut-off sheild' that you pictured is correct. This allows more light to shine to the right, while cutting it off lower on the left so that you don't blind on-coming drivers.

On the topic of aiming. US-specs for aiming are 2.1" for every 25'. In english, this means that if you park you car on a perfectly level ground, 25 feet from a vertical wall, then the beam's cut-off should be 2.1 inches lower than the projector of the headlight.

no, that's upside down. you want the metal shield to be on TOP, so the opening is at the bottom. sounds weird but the refraction of the lens flips the light output 180*.

edit: I'm a moron - the shield should be on the bottom. Pwnage below.

B, your answer is backwards, but your explanation is right on.

Take a look at some pictures I whipped up.

Here is how the light from the bulb hits the glass projector. Notice there is no sheild in this picture.

Here we see how the light is refracted as notoriousB said.

And here we see what happens when you block the light with a shield.

As you can see, the sheild being on the bottom blocks the light that would refract upward, blinding other drivers.

It's all good.

BTW Excelerate, in your sig... You're gonna tune the Accord to 16 psi with CP pistons and Crower rods? That's the same parts notoriousB's used with his setup. What other mods do you have? How much boost do you two think the F23 with these rods and pistons can take with a good tune?
