I'm lookin at the 5zigen FN01R-C
17x7 = 15.5 - 17 lbs
17x8 = 16 - 18 lbs
mostly i just daily drive.. and i plan in the future to track the car somewhat.. but Lord only knows if i'll ever get to that.
would 17x8 be over kill? or just pefect? or are the 17x7s just perfect and i would need no more?
Looking for peoples opion/advise/experience
btw, the car is a 2006 Civic EX lowered on tein s-techs

Assuming you have the proper offset, I always like the more narrow wheel. In this case 17X7. It will give you more rubber to protect the rim lip. Trust me, no matter how careful you think you will be, things happen.
An extra inch in width IMO just add weight.

Wait. Are we talking about 2006 Civic? The 15s are 195/65/15. So the 17s can be either 215/40/17 or 205/50/17 if you want it more comfort.

I would say personal preference. higher the number, the more rubber between the pavement and rim. Also, more smoother/quiet the ride is. All subjective of course to each individual.
THus, 45 series will be/look thicker than a 40 series.

17x8's without question. Even if you run the 215/45/17's you'll appreciate the extra width and improved steering response. Also allows you to upsize your tires to 235/40/17 without any fitment issues.

i thikn i'm startin to lean towards that. . .
one thing i was wondering, 1st gen RSX came with 16s... a lot of people still run those.. any cons to that? or would 17" be the best size?
anyone have pics of 215/45/17?

What? 8" rim on a daily driven car? Yeah right. Good luck!
The ride will be much harsher and it will track every imperfection of the road. Do not get 17x8" for a daily driven car! Especially a regular Civic EX like you have. The car doesn't have the suspension for that and your car will get slower. I can see it maybe on an Si which has more power and more beefy suspension. The 17x8" will be heavier and I 'm sure they are not 16lbs unless you 're paying bick bucks for these wheels. More like 18-20lbs. If a vendor gave you the range on the weight, then it's the higher figure that's more realistic. Don't believe the lower #s he/she gave you. 17x8" will be a lot heavier than you stock EX 16x6.5" alloys. You will add unwanted unsprung weight and your gas mileage will be affected as well besides losing acceleration. You also don't know what offset these wheels come from or if anyone else has them and has rubbing issues with them. And whoever said that you will faster steering response is wrong. If the wheels were considerably lighter then yes, but a little more rubber on the wheel, does not give you faster steering response. Besides the tires will be heavier too than the stock 16" ones.
I would not go with anything bigger than 17x7". Why don't you get the Si 17x7" Honda wheels? Slightly used they go for $300-400 and they have the proper offset. I see people selling their Si wheels everywhere. I 'm sure that's a lot cheaper than the 5zigen.

How much do the HFP 17 weight compared to the stock Si wheels? Also I was always under the impression that the more rubber you put down the better, as long as you dont rub anywhere ofcourse, so I would say go with the 17x8 with 235 40 17 tires.

So, I assume a 17x7.5 would be a Happy medium.. and for the rims i'm lookin at 17x8 weighs like .5lbs more...
i'm frickin lost here... i'm still thinkin 17x8 is the way to go though. . .

17x8" weigh .5 lbs more than what? Your EX 16x6.5" wheels? Find out the actual weight of the 17x8" wheel.
If weight is not an issue, then the 8" width will be. Your steering wheel will pull with every imperfection of the road and you 'll be holding on tight with both hands on the wheel all the time. That's 1.5" wider than your stock EX wheels. I just can't see that rim fitting fine without rubbing issues. I have an LX coupe. I 'm not sure the clearance is there and our springs and suspension in general is pretty soft.
If you want better handling, upgrade the rear sway bar to the Si bar or wait for an aftermarket rear sway. There are people out there with the Si rear sway bar on their LX/EX and they 're happy. If you 're still not satisfied, wait until Koni comes out with shocks for our cars, and HR or Eibach come out with lower sports springs (don't use aftermarket springs without good shocks). If you go with a 17x7" rim (like, Si, Acura TSX, etc.) which I recommend because they have the proper offset, then just get some Falken Azenis or some decent summer tires and your car will handle a lot better. I personally wouldn't go with 17x8" for my daily driver, but if there are others out there with the same wheels reporting no issues, then should consider it. Otherwise you 're a guinney pig for everyone else. If you plan to track the car, get a 2nd set of wheels & tires for the track only. You don't want to track your every-day tires, unless you 're flat broke and for some reason you have to go to the track.

I highly appreciate your input
just an FYI, I am lowered on Tein STechs (not that they are the ultimate but it's not stock anymore) and i definately plan to upgrade the rear sway bar. . . i'm waiting what ASR has before I considered the progress rear sway that just came out. . have considered the Si one.. but i'd much rather have an aftermarket one since i'm upgraded it in the first place
i hear what your saying about 17x8, thats why i was thinking of going with like 17x7.5 with 225/45/-17 tires (falken or kumho, we'll see)
after having thought about it.. if you feel the road that much with 17x8 . . . nah i'm koo i commute too much for that
