Yea, i had a 93 eg cx hatch.. and originally it came with some rust on the rear qp's.. so i was just curious as to mechanical problems.. thanks! just wondering what kindof mileage i should be looking for.. im looking to spend around 5-6000 CAD.. on a 94-96 2 door.. at this point im not too concerned with the series.. just wana a nice running teg thats all.
With that budget I think a GSR would be out of the picture, unles syou are able to find a goldmine.
I think you should be able to find a 94-97 LS or RS for $4000-$5000 USD, then put the rest of the money into a suspension setup or keep saving for a turbo setup. And dont be all that worried about mileage. Ask if you can have a compression check done before you buy it. That will be a better indication of the overall health of then engine than just the mileage alone.
I wouldnt bother with a dealership unless thats all you can find around there. I seem to find that most private sales can be found for cheaper, and they can be talked down more.
When I bought my 94 RS (with 78,000 miles) private sale, I was able to talk the guy down from $6000 to $5000 just by paying him cash and justifying a few repairs that needed to be made.

I've found an Ls for 4900$ (canadian) with 168,000 on the body and engine... what kind of numbers should i be watching for when i do or if i get the chance to do a compression check?

I dont remember the exact compression numbers of the LS motor, but Im sure if you search on here you can find them.
I think the rule of thumb is that as long as all the cylinders are with 10% of each other you are fine.

I picked bought a '91 2-door last summer and got lucky because it was super clean, there was no rust and the enging and tranny were in very good condition. However, people drive their Tegs hard, so no matter what year you get, you'll probably have to drop at least a G replacing things like the alternator, timing belt+waterpump, starter, brakes/rotors, distributor, etc... But the engines, even with 175,000 mi on them are really strong. That's the thing that separates the Tegs from all the other sporty cars. The build quality is excellent. Also, be careful of buying one with a lot of mods. Get one close to stock and do your own work on it. You never know how rinky dink another guy's mods are going to be, and how he's beat on the engine and tranny.
