Default STRANGE exhaust sound help?!

driving or at idle, i hear like slight popping sound coming out from the exhaust like backfire i assume, but its minimal sound, you can barely hear it but its there. Its like it has a pattern to it. What can be the cause of this? hope its nothing major. please help!? thanks

check spark plugs, and do you have a short ram intake? or cold air? or stock ?

You might want to get new plugs and make sure they're properly gapped.

I'm a bit on the rich side (turbo D) and I get occasional misfires at idle and super-light throttle.

New plug wires and check your base timing.

You said you're running rich, why's that?

Base timing is when you break out the timing light and you see where the little timing mark lines up on the crank and little V thing on the timing belt cover.

Buy new spark plugs and new spark plug wires (OEM wires are generally the best.) and I'd replace that air filter.

Then check your base timing (Using a timing light you want the little mark to be between the Vs on the timing belt cover.

I have no clue. It's something I've been meaning to replace on my car for awhile. I just hope it all holds together for another couple of months so I can put a completely new motor in.

Why is your car running rich? Running rich is probably the main reason for the mis-fire.

That's wierd. I don't know why it's running rich. It sounds like you have a pretty stock car. It would make me think fouled O2 sensor, but that's something too expensive to replace if you're just trouble shooting.

I'd start with the plugs, wires, and check your timing.

its been like that less noticeable, but it was there, but jus last nite thats wen it started to do it more. and wen i took it to vtec range today in the morning after it has warmed up, it was popping in vtec range, then kept driving normal then went to vtec then it went away, since then it doesnt pop in vtec but pops nonetheless idle or cruising no smoke or any sort.

because you're running rich you could even be dieseling a bit, if its hot enough and there's unburned gas that builds it ignites itself... nothing to worry about, just finish your turbo build and i think you'll be fine. get a FPR asap

It's predetnating/unburnt fuel left in the cylinder is combusting without the spark plug firing.
