Default What can I do to improve my times?

I recently purchased a 00 GSR. The mods are:

Skunk 2 IM
S2 internals
S2 Cam gears
SRI
DC 4-2-1 Ceramic with 2.5 to a twin loop
OBD1 conversion with P30 and S100
Full Omni power suspension
Yokohama ES100's
ACT XTD Stage 2 clutch

Now this past Friday I took it to the track for the first time and am only running 11.02 in the 1/8th. Why are my times so bad? I am launching around 4K RPM's. I am shifting at 8500 and my best time is 11.02. Can anyone help me?

Now there is one more problem I am having, I have not experienced this problem at the track but I am still having it. When I am driving sometimes when I hit 5800 and engage VTEC it will stick. I will stay at that speed and RPM but it will not increase what so ever. The only way for me to get past that is to shift, go up a few MPH and then downshift and keep going. Now this doesn't happen all the time, just everynow and again with me doing nothing differently. It never does it in 1st or 2nd gear. Only in 3rd and 4th. I dont know about 5th because I never really open it up that much. Can someone please help me?

If there is anything I didn't say and you need more answers let me know.
TIA

To your first question about the tracks, what was your 60ft? If you posted your timeslip it would be more helpful. For your second question about your car running crappy, I think it might just be poor tuning. With skunk2 internals, did you ever tune your car?

defnatly your 60ft times will help. Also, whats your MPH at the 1/8th?
many things can be contributing to your slow times.

Mechanically, something must be wrong with your car. Try checking the vtec solenoid...for starts

I would love to post my times and a pic of the slip, but my track is cheap and no longer gives out slips, ya I know. But that is all I have to work with.
I have not tuned yet. In Aug. I am buying CTR pistons, and BC4 cams, and then I am going to have it tuned. The closest place to get it tuned is about 6 hours a way.

VTEC soleniod is fine, and VTEC engages no problem (for the most part) When it works it works great.

Also the 1/8th speed is around 66-68 MPH, sorry I cant give any 60ft times or anything else. This is what you get when you live in BFE

you dont have the time slip for the pass you made?

well....even if you took the revs up 4k and dumped the clutch...you hit at worst a 2.6 or 2.7 60ft. Even with a horrible 60ft like that....it doesnt explain the 11 second 1/8th or the sub 70mph traps.
on a healthy motor you car should be hitting mid to high 14's...which should put you at a mid 9 second 1/8th with a mid 70's trap speed.
something is really wrong...either your driving is insanely bad or your motor is not making the amount of power it should be.
do a leak down and compression test......and trouble shoot that motor.

Like I said my track doesnt give slips (they are cheap bastards)
I like to think that I am a good driver, and just thinking that maybe I was doing something wrong. I let a friend drive my car and he couldn't do any better either. I am going back this Friday and I am going to let another friend drive and if he cant do any better than no one can.
I will try to get a compression test done tomorrow, I need to anyway. But what is a leak down?

It feels like it is bogging when I have the 5800RPM problem.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Viorent Grip! EG &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">have u raced other cars with similar set ups?

Here is the embarrasing part. That night at the track I raced a 95 GSR and all I could see under the hood was SRI and exaust (muffler at the least). He ran a 10.01 to my 11.10. I have ran other people on the street and if it is from a stop light I almost always lose. However if it is a roll on then I usually do pretty good.

Maybe this will help. I dont have a scanner but here is my numbers from my dyno pull last week. Sorry for the crappy pic.

I hope this helps. Now this was a Dynojet, and out of the 20 people that dyno'd that day 16 or 17 had already dyno'd recently and had said that they dyno was reading 20-25 low, so you might want to take that in consideration but I dont know. I am still new to honda's.

your power and tq numbers seems extremely low esp wtih the mods you listed.
when you say skunk internals.....what exactly do you mean?
I would definately get a compression test done....something very wrong

Valves, springs, and retainers.
I will go tomorrow and get the comp. test. But what is a leak down?

Also like I said, everyone was complaining about the HP numbers being low on that dyno.

a leak down basically tests if air leaks anywhere in the motor that should be sealed....resulting in loss of compression or combustion

Okay thanks. I will post my comp. results tomorrow. Please check in and tell me what you think. Thanks man. BTW how much do comp. tests usually go for?

uh....didn't you say that you had a problem with it sticking?

You have a mechanical problem, diagnose that first before you start worrying about how you can get faster, more than likely you will fix most of your problems once you find out what's wrong and get that fixed.....don't work on a broken car, it's pointless and adds more frustration.....

Also, why do you have skunk 2 valves, springs and retainers if you are (i assume) runnig stock cams, it's pointless

Yes I have a problem with the RMP's sticking at 5800, sometimes. Right now I really cant afford to have to much work done to the car. If someone thinks they might know what it wrong with the car I would love to check that out.
valves, springs and retainers were done to the car when I bought it. I am putting new cams, pistons and having it tuned in Septmeber.

I have stated my problem above, and about the timeslip, like I said, I would love to show you guys a time slip however, my track is cheap and ghetto. They do not give out slips anymore. They stopped at the end of last season.

there are a couple concerns I have when it comes to you car......

Are you sure you have upgraded valvetrain when you purchased the car?
Was the head assembled correctly?
For proper vtec engagement, water temp, vehicle speed, rpm, oil pressure are all needed to function.....are you sure all of these areas and or sensors are in proper order?

definatley working on a hurt motor is very counter productive. Rather than spending money to enhance the performance of your "hurt" motor.....getting it to run properly will compensate the power your trying to hit

good luck...

A friend of mine (a mechanic at the Honda stealership) recently changed my timing belt and water pump for me. When he did this he told me I had an upgraded lightweight valve train. He said he was almost positive that it was Skunk2.
As far as I know the head is properly assembled.
I dont even get on my car until it is properly warmed up to at least 125º, the oil pressure is fine ( i have a gauge). As far as I know everything is in working condition, except my RPM problem. I am going to try and find out what the problem is with this today. Like I said I will be getting the comp. test and the leak down test today. If anyone else has any input please feel free to share with me. I will post my comp. numbers in a little while.

Wow, my dead-*** (cracked valve guide'd) B16 in my coupe on 17" wheels even ran a 10.2 @ 70mph before I tore her down for the LSVTEC!

Anyway, something is definitely NOT right with your car.

x2 on the compression test results.

Is the car smoking/burning anything?

Okay I was unable to do the test today, weather got shitty so I will have to wait till tomorrow. But I am doing it tomorrow no matter what.

The car is not burning anything, or smoking at all. I will post the results tomorrow. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Sorry I have nothing right now.
