Default 5th gear options

I'm looking to swap my 5th gear, as my RPM is rather high than I want it to be at the speeds I drive on the highway - I want to save some money on gas as the prices are rising and my wage isn't. What would be the best 5th gear, what ratio, and from what transmission & car? TIA! (Were talking b-series transmissions here)

PS. Not sure if this would be the right forum, so if there is a forum where this question belongs - moderators please move it.

a gsr tranny, sorry I didn't clarify. All I'm looking for is the lowest 5th gear ration. Is the LS 5th gear the lowest?

most people do it for turbo applications usually, but I would think it would be fine. I have an h22 tranny in my prelude with the f22 engine. It redlines at 6200 and 5th gear I redline at about 115 mph. which sucks, so I thought about swapping final drives, but just decide to swap the h22 longblock in...Im not going turbo so I really dont care. It would prolly be fine for your b18c, you wont hit 5th gear on the 1/4 mile strip anyways...and all it is is the overdrive for cruising on the interstate

Anyone know what the transmission code for the B20? I'm trying to search as well, but can't find any useful info.

only thing I could find. (still looking)

and besides, the ls 5th gear is going to be the longest 5th that you can put in there.

nobody swaps the 4.2666 final drive for better cruising. It's not going to make that much of a difference

Shouldn't this be in a manual (Haynes?). Can someone take a look as I don't have my manual handy at this moment. Thanks!

i as well spent 20 mins or so searching, point is just swap in the LS 5th and get the next size bigger tires if you have gone down, and call it good. or swap in a whole LS tranny. hell trade your GSR for an LS and cash.

You know I'm right here... Sorry about that, I had a really long day away from home and didn't have the resources or time to search.

I just checked on my commute home, the GSR runs ~2,500RPM @ 60mph... with which I am not happy at all with. So my question is... How much of a difference would I see with an LS 5th on the same tires. Currently runing 17s on low profiles - yes i know but i got em for free - so I can't really swap the tires... however, I will be getting a set of 10lb 15s soon. What tire size do you recommend for the 15s? I still want to keep the car low.

(sorry if this is kind of disorganized and hard to read)

EDIT:
egcoupe94, Voyage34, Bense, schardbody - thank you guys for your help, I greatly appreciate it!

EDIT #2:
Oh yeah, and I got a speeding ticket on my way home - makes up for an amazing day!

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

ls 5th = 0.714

not worth it unless you're installing a final drive or lsd or BOTH!

axle ratio = final drive ratio

0.787 / 0.714 = 1.1022409 it's a 10% difference in gears, just take 10% out of whatever rpm you're normally at.

if you're at 4000rpm @ 80mph, try 3600rpm with a ls 5th. and even with that said, it's not really worth all the effor unless you're dropping the tranny anyways.

Actualy, that's why I'm considering swaping the 5th... my 3rd syncro is gridning pretty bad, I have to lower my RPMs to like 2500 in neutral to switch gears without any grind - or sometimes minimal grind. So I have no other option but to unbolt my tranny. It's a JDM GSR B18C so it's already got LSD (???)
